Not from the area and decided to explore local restaurants before the festival. The place had a steady flow of customers, but unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. We werenât greeted upon arrival in the line and waited over 30 minutes after placing the order, for a small $9.00 sandwich and a third of a pickle spear. The bun was soggy on the plain side not the tomato / lettuce / mayo side..
To make matters worse, our order wasnât labeled with a table number, so the server took it around to every table, asking if anyone had ordered these two sandwiches. It was awkward watching everyone peer over our food plates as we tried to get the serverâs attention. After everyone else declined the plates, the server needed to verify at the counter that they were indeed ours. By then, we were the only customers left who hadn't been asked.
Without saying a word, the server finally placed the plates down and walked away. We had to figure out on our own that napkins, silverware, and straws were self-serve at the end of the bar. This was, by far, a very unusual and disappointing experience. It wasnât welcoming at all, though perhaps we just caught them on an off day.    Read moreWhat a wonderful little hidden gem! I love what they've done to maintain the history of the old hardware store but also modernize it a bit as well. I stopped by for lunch around 11:30 lam on a Wednesday. There were people at 2 tables and another person waiting on their to go order. I was acknowledged with a friendly face when I went to the counter to order. She was quite helpful since I said it was my first time here. I opted for the Chicken Pesto Sandwich and a cup of Chicken Wild Rice Soup. I initially thought I'd take half my sandwich home for later but it was too good and I consumed the whole thing. Soup was amazing as well!
The architecture and woodwork in this building is stunning and it was so relaxing to sit and enjoy a meal.
I ordered a small Breve for my ride home. Again. Wonderful.
I highly recommend and have already sent pictures to my group of girlfriends stating we need to make a road trip some Saturday when we can.
Great job, Daphne Mae...
Read moreThis cute cafe is tucked away inside the little town of Halstead, Kansas. The ambiance was so relaxing with the armoas of sweet treats and coffee in the air. The service was great, very welcoming and helpful with recommendations. The food was excellent! I ordered the sausage, cheese and egg casserole with a Carmel macchiato (iced). Simply delicious they both were! They had everything from breakfast items, sweet treats, coffees and lattes to sandwiches and summer time drinks. Definitely a must if you happen to follow the brick road to this...
