Manila's Cafe — Restaurant in Hammond

My husband and I placed a to go order at 1 pm on a Wednesday and waited 45 minutes. We were not told how long of a wait it would be. I was not asked how I wanted my Philly cheesesteak sandwich dressed and it occurred to me later that they might put something besides meat, cheese, bell peppers, and onions. Thankfully I asked because I can not do mayo. Apparently, it would come with ketchup, mustard, and mayo? The server answered the phone and was rude with whoever was calling for someone that went to a store? She also said "man people just keep coming in" as my husband was walking through the door, like she was annoyed. She mentioned on the phone being slammed. There were 3 other tables in there, far from full. I was told onion rings would be $1 more when I ordered, but the menu said my poboy came with fries, onion rings, or sweet potato fried, with no mention of upcharge. My husband got the lunch special which was supposed to be a hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. It was soup. My po-boy was not seasoned at all, no salt, just greasy and the meat was tough, but my onion rings did not say seasoned and they had some kind of Cajun seasoning on them and were excessively greasy also. I was tempted to bring it all back, but after being there almost an hour, I have no desire to go back even to get my money back. My husband was excited to try a new place, and the pictures look great, but the pictures are not even of the place in robert that we went to and the food can't be from the same people. I've NEVER left a one star review. I feel most people only post bad reviews, so I purposefully do not do that. This is the first time I've felt that there was nothing good to speak of or that it couldn't have been an accident or misunderstanding. We both tried to eat a few bites and then threw it all away. $35 before tip down the drain. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Manila Cafe, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely phenomenal !!! Every bite of my ribeye steak was a delight to my taste buds. Each side dish was clearly made with great care and attention to detail, and the portions were generous. The service at Manila Cafe was warm, welcoming, and attentive. From the moment me and my friend walked in, they made us feel like a valued guest. The servers were knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations based on my preferences. Even though the restaurant was very busy, the service was outstanding and prompt, I never felt rushed. The atmosphere was nice and inviting, an open floor with great music. Whether you are there for a casual meal or a special occasion, the vibe is relaxed yet vibrant, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a meal with family or friends. Manila Cafe is a hidden gem that I cannot recommend highly enough. We stopped in after reading the reviews, but definitely were not impressed. Both my husband's & my orders were wrong (I asked for mayo, ketchup, lettuce, tomato & onion on my bacon burger-no cheese, husband asked for mayo & bacon on his mushroom/onion burger-no cheese.....both came with cheese, no bacon or mayo on his, no mayo/ketchup or onions on mine & the tomato slices looked like something that should've been thrown away instead of put on someone's order).The french fries that came with the burgers were not cooked all the way & were frankly disgusting. To top it off, the prices on the menu were less than what was on our bill & the prices are ridiculous-$34.+ for two disappointing burgers, inedible fries, a glass of iced tea & a glass of ice water! If we hadn't been in a hurry-we would've sent them back & walked out, but we decided to choke them down, pay the outrageous bill & leave.
