Finally got a chance to make it over to Double R dog today. Brought the family for lunch before the kids go to summer camp for the week.
First, we were greeted with smiles and a welcome to double R dogs by the man working the counter. Turned out to be the owner! Brent. It was very easy to tell he loves what he’s doing here. And, it showed in every detail. Rustic atmosphere and a very clean establishment.
We ordered hot dogs, chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, beef sausage combo, and some of the brisket chili because it sounded so good. All came with fries and a drink as a combo.
The wait was worth it. 4oz sausage stacked with 8oz of beef, and topped off with a hot giardiniera. Dipped of course. (Let’s just say I’m writing this review from the comfort of a big chair while the meaty coma drifts me off to sleep.)
My wife had a grilled chicken sandwich with all the fixings. Best one I’ve tried in a long time. Very fresh and healthy grilled chicken on a perfect bun.
The Vienna beef hot dogs were great! Served on poppy seed buns(a must) One was plain and one just ketchup as the littles aren’t into toppings yet.
The panko crusted chicken tenders were a nice touch. I was only allotted so much for dad tax in my samples. But, I’d get them for myself on another visit for sure.
That brings me to the fries! Yes, the fries! The fries are fresh cut potatoes fried in beef tallow! Served piping hot. Just how I like them. Seriously, unreal how good they were. I ate mine and most of the kids leftover fries.
Portions were more than filling and the quality was top notch. The brisket chili was also phenomenal.
My next visit will include a brisket chili cheese dog without a doubt. The food didn’t last long enough to snap pictures. So you’ll just have to try it...
Read moreGreat food, prepared consistently since day one—that’s a big reason I keep coming back. If you’re dining in, there are four tables and a window counter with stools for a total of about 20 seats. I stopped in for lunch to go on a Tuesday around 1:00, and it was half full. The owner was working the register and entering orders—he was kind and courteous while I browsed the menu board, and he made sure I got the best value for my order with a combo. I ordered the Chicago dog, brisket chili cheese dog, a pizza puff, and fresh cut fries. Everything was brought out within about 10 minutes, packed neatly in a bag. Food was still warm after a short drive home, so I knew it was prepared hot and fresh. I would’ve posted photos of the food, but I tucked in and devoured it before thinking to take a picture. The chili cheese dog was expectedly messy, but not obnoxiously so, and the hunks of brisket were tasty. I like their Chicago dogs because they’re assembled well—you get all the toppings in each bite, and it doesn’t crumble into a sloppy disaster while you eat it. Word. Fresh cut fries were cooked and salted well. This is a solid Midwest smoked meat/hot dog joint done right, with reasonable prices for...
Read moreMy first time at this American fast food joint was a nice experience with the staff and even better with the food (crispy chicken sandwich 👍). The second time however, today July 29, 2025, I ordered a crispy chicken southwest wrap with no lettuce. I got the wrap with lettuce bursting at the seams! And the chicken tasted like the bottom of an old freezer burnt fridge and was hard as a rock. The cashier at the time was extremely rude and barely acknowledged me when I came in, nor did she answer the phone. However, that is the least of my worries when I’m spending 15$-20$ for a chicken wrap. At least make the chicken fresh and not 2 weeks prior, filling the food order should also be a must with the high prices at Double R’ Dogs. Appropriate staff would be a plus as well. I don’t think I’ll be ordering food from here...
