We have a large Family and meet there with a party of 10+ at the least 5 times a year. Food and everything were always spot on. We loved it and looked forward to planning our next get together there. Over the past few years, it has been hit or miss. Several times food has been undercooked, bad service, no service, and just lack of preparation for handling multiple large parties at once. I have tried complaining to the manger, a dark haired man who I believe is the owners son, but he just looks at you like you are stupid and never offers a smile or resolution. Having been a server in the past and working in the restaurant industries for several years you develop grace for that industry because you know personally things happen and you can only do what you can do. Last night we had our reservation for the 12 of us celebrating our Family's January birthdays. We are put in the very back room. No issues there. Every one is on time. We waited at least 20 min for someone to even take our drink order. When our waitress came over she apologized and stated there was a lack of communication between her and another server about our table. No big deal. Some of our drinks came out some didnt. The server could not remember who ordered what and would call out the drink in hand for for either our party or the one next to us to claim. It was odd. When our food order was finally taken out server started it off then another server came in to take over just after she started. He finished taking the order with the proper people on each check and was off to our our order in. The food took well over an hour to come out with no refills being offered in the meantime. When the food finally came out all these trays were lined up in front of two table and just sat then the server came out and started asking if anyone had this and that between two separate tables. It was chaotic. The food was cold and I had to get up and find condiments for our table despite asking for them several times. The reason I am posting this is the big black hair melted into the cheese of my meal waving like a red flag. The server took my meal off my ticket but for me, that is disgusting and has turned my stomach against this place. Getting our check was the same as the food and drink auctions and checks were not grouped as the should have been. The whole evening was pretty bad. Saved only by the company of family. I decided to do this review as I know if I tried to tell the manager about our experience he would have given me the same, are you stupid look, as he had done before. I know this will not change how Gils is ran or staffed but maybe this will help others decide if having a large group at Gils is going to be worth it. They simply cannot handle it...
Read moreA few years ago this was an excellent place for dinner. I don’t know whether there was a change in management/ownership but the staff is absolutely HORRIBLE now! I brought my daughter one night a couple of months ago for dinner. We waited at the front with absolutely NO ONE waiting before us. I watched several staff members pass us without an acknowledgement that we were there. When we finally got a table, the waitress was rude and when we got our food it was cold and terrible. The waitress never came to ask if everything was to our liking or an ask if we needed refills. I figured it was a fluke so, I tried again, 3 weeks ago. This time, tables were open, but there were several people waiting, sitting up front for a table. Again, with my daughter, couldn’t even get any communication from any of the wait staff who would look our way and ignore us while we were raising our hands for some form of acknowledgement. We stood there for more than 20 minutes without a single word from anyone who worked there and decided to leave figuring we weren’t welcome. Is this an exclusive “town people only” restaurant now? Do we have to know someone to get a table or palatable food that your older reviews suggest? Is training involved when staff is hired for better customer service? I’d welcome a conversation from anyone there who could shed some light on the trend of horrible...
Read moreI walked into gils and was not greeted, i had to look around and wait for someone finally show up to be seated. The server had a bad attitude, finally we ordered our fried chicken. While waiting for the food, us along with alot of other guests overheard, I'm assuming the owner or general manager ( I believe her name was cindy) scolding and demeaning our server for no apparent reason. No wonder the server had a bad attitude. When the food finally arrived it looked great until I got into the middle of a chicken breast and was raw on the inside. After the stressful experience and watching Cindy seem all crazed out towards her own employee I didn't even say anything fearful of how Cindy would react. We've been coming to gils for over a decade. I'm sorry to say I will not be visiting gils again nor will my family. Cindy I hope in the future you do better.
Overall recommendation: avoid this place...
