I have actually never written a negative review. I worked in food service my entire life before becoming a critical care nurse, which has given me great patience with the service industry. I understand that things don't always go well, and sometimes we are busy, but our job is to always be kind and do what we are there to do.
That being said, my friends made a reservation here and, having a dietary restriction, I checked the menu and the internet to find what I could order. I had a couple dishes in mind, but couldn't be assured they were OK for me to eat. I called the restaurant a couple hours before our reservation to confirm. Since the Market Street Grille website boasts made-from-scratch food, I suspected it would be an easy call.
I briefly shared my restriction with the hostess, who told me she would check and asked me to hold, please. Another women answered and said
hello, ma'am, you can check out our menu online.
I explained quickly that I had checked out the menu, but sometimes sauces are made with unusual ingredients. That I wasn't picky, but just wanted to make sure.
She followed up by telling me that "ma'am. [she had] a long line at the door, and that the menu is online."
Disappointed, we had no other choice but to cancel our reservation. From fast food to fine dining, I have never spoken with someone who received me the way this employee did.
Because it looks like a great restaurant, here are some ways other places respond:
"Absolutely. I'm actually not sure, but let me check on that for you. May I take a number and call you back within the half hour?" "Thanks for choosing us. Let me check with the kitchen staff." "People with that restriction typically eat [xyz]." "Ooo let me check."
Alternatively, it might be helpful to briefly teach the staff some options for those with the most common restrictions.
There is no reason to make a customer feel like an inconvenience. I...
Read moreGoogle really need to allow zero stars. Tonight was my first and last experience at Market Street Grill. We had made a reservation and then upon arrival had to wait 20+ minutes for our table. The Host was very polite and told us that this happens because they double book tables. Great! When our table was ready we were seated by the host who was 1 of the 2 people in the restaurant wearing a mask. Our waitress was the other. We were given our water by someone not wearing a mask which we weren't happy about. We decided to order a few drinks before dinner and then noticed the bartender not wearing a mask either. I can only assume none of the other kitchen staff were either. We decided to leave and left our drinks and paid our waitress for them on the way out. My guess is that if the staff doesn't think the simple task of wearing a mask is important to public safety then they probably aren't taking other precautions either. Also since none of the patrons that entered or left the place wore one, they didn't seem concerned either. Not how I planned my evening to go but we ended up at one of our favorite places in downtown Cincinnati. Butcher and Barrel. I really had hoped this would become a local place for us to enjoy in our new hometown of...
Read moreGood food great waitresses but the owner is too concerned about getting the next customer seated. Reservations for the party room were made 4 weeks in advanced for our grandma's 90. We made them for 5:00 to close in the back room. Was called the week of the party and was told that we could only have the room till 7:30 because they wanted to seat other people in the back room after that time. We arrived on time but the last person in our group did not receive their food until 7:00. At 7:15 we over heard the owner telling our servers to get us out of there now. From that point on we were rudely rushed and the waitresses were being pushed by the own to make us leave. When we confronted the owner about why we were being pushed out on to the street she attempted to tell us that she was being yelled at by somebody and that she was just the manager. She finally confessed to us that they did not just want to seat other guest in the back room after our party but that they had booked a second party in the back room after us when she told us that originally had the room for the whole night. The owner is a little concerned with over booking her parties instead of showing her customers respect and trying to get her patrons to return ever again. We will...
