Edit 9/25/23 Note my review below (March, 2023). I just want to update as I need to make a few points. This is specific to the Birdville Pie. There is absolutely, positively no doubt that Phillippi's own the original Mooney & Lefty Martz (formerly P&M) Pizza.
When P&M closed in the early 2000's and was bought by a new family (~2007) the new (and current) owners were never granted the recipe by the Martz family. It's a lazy attempt at a knock-off using the wrong cheeses (they are white and burn easily); a bad sauce recipe and a bad crust recipe. It's bad.
Phillippi's is good! (when it's made right).
Because I'm a loyalists and have eaten the original Mooney and Lefty pizza, and realize that there are a lot of clueless people, it's imperative to get the above points across.
My only dig with Phillippi's is that they do lack quality control. It depends on who is making it in the kitchen. I've gotten the pizza on recent Friday's and would say it was made really poorly (thick cheese, and dry, no detectable sauce). Then I'd get it on a Sunday and it was vintage Mooney & Lefty quality.
I still love it and it's worth rolling the dice but training the staff...
Read moreTried this place three times. Once for breakfast second time was a bunch of appetizers for lunch and the third time was dinner. For breakfast we got an egg BLT and scrambled eggs bacon toast and home fries. We waited so long and the dining area was not crowed at all. The bacon was so burnt i mean i like crispy bacon but this was just bad. Wayyy over cooked. For the appetizers we got the breaded shrimp witch was so disgusting the breading was soggy and the shrimp were dry, provolone wedges that were not like cheese sticks with hot stringy cheese these were luke warm hunks of cheese. Gross. Nachos with cheese ( they forgot our salsa) and Buffalo chicken dip witch was actually amazing! .. For dinner we got the famous "birdville" pie. The name fits the bill because thats for the birds! The cheese was all dried out the sauce tasted like spaghetti sauce and the crust was so thin an over done it was like eating leftover tortilla chips.. The only good part of my 3 time experience here is the Buffalo chicken dip and the staff...
Read moreLoved coming here for 2 years off and on.i live 2 blocks away and I always had great service. But tonight the young lady that worked here seemed to be offended that I was here..I sat alone away from every one and after my first beer I tried to keep getting the bartenders attention when I did she seemed like I was rude interrupting her from her talking to the click at the other end of the bar.i want to asked her what I did wrong but if I have to ask I should just leave..I am after this beer..I'll leave a quarter for a tip..if she is here when I walk in I'll turn around and leave...I love this place and the young guy bartender that plays guitar and I believe his family that owns the place..but she acts like I don't matter.im not with the click I think she might be related....I just got off of work serving people all day I just wanted a few beers..I'll drive to the Saxton Inn from now on...rite little girl.she never even said your welcome or smole d or made eye contact...I feel like she wants me to...
