Oriental Express & Catering – A True Hidden Gem in Harrisonburg
Oriental Express in Harrisonburg has truly impressed me with its quality, freshness, and authentic flavors. The General Tso’s Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Sesame Chicken were perfectly cooked — crispy on the outside, tender inside, and packed with rich, balanced flavor. The Coconut Shrimp was another highlight — large, juicy, and coated in a light coconut glaze that wasn’t overly sweet. And the Crab Rangoons were golden, crunchy, and generously filled — easily among the best I’ve had anywhere.
Everything arrived fresh, hot, and neatly packed, showing real care from both the kitchen and staff. The customer service was polite and attentive, and it’s clear the owners genuinely listen to feedback and continuously improve their dishes.
Having traveled and dined across the U.S., Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Canada, I can confidently say this restaurant delivers exceptional quality and consistency that rival many international favorites. Don’t let a few outdated or unfair reviews mislead you — Oriental Express is absolutely worth a visit.
Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic, flavorful, and well-prepared Chinese-American cuisine in...
Read moreThe first time I tried this restaurant was almost a year ago. I ordered sweet and sour chicken and crab rangoons. The chicken entree was swimming in onions (I had to dig through the onions to find the chicken, and the fried rice had massive chunks of onion in it as well). I remembered the crab rangoons were decent, so I decided to give this restaurant a second chance tonight and only ordered the crab rangoons. The drive through guy was kind of creepy, but I had my food a few minutes later. My crab rangoons tasted burnt and had no flavor of crab at all. Compared to other Chinese restaurants, these are honestly the worst crab rangoons I’ve had in regards to taste and texture. I was super excited when this restaurant was being built because it’s close to my house, but now I feel like it taunts me over what it...
Read moreOk, I absolutely love the friend rice, kung pao chicken, and bourbon chicken! The portions for individual meals are plentiful. I love the wontons but at a dollar a peice they are pricey! The 'Large Entrees' for family meals are very small and only 4/5 wontons included, which is never enough for a family. **I overall like this place but please work on the online ordering, i left walmart next door placed an online order waited the almost 30 min it said for it to be ready (just sat in the parking lot) and when it was time and i pulled up to the drive thru to pick it up the girl just then checked the order and started it, bagged half then informed us we would have to wait while they cooked more bourbon chicken. Waited 20 more minutes while the rest of the...
