Paul and Joan, the proprietors of the Safe Harbor Bed and Breakfast, couldn't have been more accommodating. Myself and my lady-friend came down to Cape Cod for an evening just before the equinox in September, 2014. It was one of those sun-radiant days where the sky is as clear as if just washed by rain, and, though chilly for a September day, the sunlight was warm and bracing. A day like that and any place of lesser worth than the Safe Harbor would have been a letdown, but it was nothing of the kind. It made our short trip Cape-ward more wonderful than we could have expected. ||||The house itself is a work of Nineteenth-Century New England domicilic art. A modified Georgian, painted white, ventilated by what seems like dozens of multi-paned windows, the house keeps rhythm with the architectural cadences established by the nearby center of Harwich itself, which is woodframed and brick-chimneyed, rustic without seeming provincial, cosmopolitan without being busy, and beautiful and peaceful overall. Paul and Joan talked with us after we had moved in upstairs, and Paul's sister Chris came around a little later and together we enjoyed an early-evening libation as the sun dipping to evening shone on the southwestern side of the house. Their adorable beagles, Benny and Bucky, rolled about on the floor and were exceedingly friendly, keeping us company as we talked and laughed. ||||The restaurant that Paul recommended, Mooncussers, just down the street, was a miracle in its own right. Given that Safe Harbor is perhaps only two miles from the Nantucket Sound, before we went to Mooncussers we drove for just a few minutes down to the shore and watched the sun set from a sandy beach along which gulls and the occasional plover flew. At Mooncussers we ate and drank like Doges, and enjoyed the company of the affable and hospitable co-owners of that restaurant before making the very short trip back to Safe Harbor and turning in for a comfortable night where the four-posted bed we slept on was as comfortable as it was large. ||||In the morning, Paul lent us two bicycles, and we pedaled along the nearby Old Colony Rail Trail and the Cape Cod Rail Trail. We passed between freshwater ponds and cranberry bogs in full sunshine. A delicious breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast, yogurt, muffins, fresh strawberries, blueberries and melons (and plenty of coffee and tea) awaited us upon our return. Paul and Joan pride themselves on procuring local ingredients for the food that they serve their guests, and punctuating their commitment to "sourcing local" was an astounding augment to the toast and muffins: a jam from locally-picked cranberries spiced with jalapenos! It was unbelievably delicious, and had been crafted right in Harwich. ||||Unfortunately for myself and my lady-friend, because of time constraints we had to leave only a little after noon. The sun washed the green lawn behind the bed and breakfast as we enjoyed our last few minutes sitting in comfortable outdoor chairs, and the two beagles paused keeping us company to chase off a squirrel that had dared trespass at the southern end of the property. It left us mildly depressed to have to leave so soon, but we were thankful, at the same time, for having had the chance to spend such a beautiful and peaceful day on the better side of the Cape Cod canal in the good company of Paul, Joan, Chris, Benny and Bucky at the lovely Safe Harbor Bed and Breakfast. And...

I just returned from a weekend on the Cape staying at Safe Harbor B&B and had an amazing time! Our host Paul was an amazing host! The house is big with plenty of space, including a backyard. Paul goes out of his way to make you feel at home. The beds are extremely comfortable. He also has bikes and a bunch of indoor and outdoor games available for guest. It is in a great location close to restaurants, beaches and the bike path. It is also dog friendly, which is a huge plus! If you are able to put in any request for breakfast as Paul to make his banana walnut waffles, they are to die for. I would recommend all my friends and family who are going down to the cape...

My husband stayed two nights this week at the Safe Harbor Bed and Breakfast on Main Street in Harwich. (Harwich is well situated on the Cape, just about in the geographical middle of the long peninsula). He enjoyed his stay and his host so much that he asked me to write this review. Paul, the owner and host is great (which I can affirm from my own pleasant conversation with him on the phone when I called to make the reservation) His home is very comfortable, pet friendly and within walking distance of a couple of local restaurants/bar. He would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a...
