We stopped here for a late lunch on our way out of town after a quick weekend Cape trip, and weren't particularly impressed. The menu was a little small (what self-respecting pub doesn't have a burger entree as a permanent menu fixture?--they just had a sliders appetizer), the food was only so-so, and the service wasn't great either. It seemed like more of a local dive bar than a restaurant judging by the overall decor and the lack of tables inside--I think we were sitting at the only one, a high-top, though they did have several tables outside on their side patio (a nice idea, but not very appealing on a 90-degree day). Given the bar aesthetic, I was a little surprised at their relatively meager beer selection, though they did have a decent cocktail menu.
The fact that both our waitress and the bartender mentioned multiple times the "kids" or teenagers running the kitchen was a little concerning, and only served to reinforce the idea that the bar, rather than the food, is the focus of this business. Accordingly, I wasn't completely shocked when the small pizza I ordered as my entree came out with the wrong toppings on it. Not wanting to be a pain or delay our trip home any further, I ate it rather than asking for them to re-make it, but I was a little disappointed that they only offered to remove my wife's soda from the bill as remediation... What was that, $2? Thanks.
The pizza was just so-so, as were the sliders, but the wings were decent, and the "side" salad was huge and of good quality. However, given the overall experience we had, I'd rather go down the street to Ember for pizza or Brax Landing for a burger next time. I don't think we'll...
Read moreI was very disappointed in my experience at this bar last night. My boyfriend and I arrived around 9 or 9:30pm after finishing dinner at a nearby restaurant. We came into the bar and proceeded to order beers, but the bartender seemed to immediately have an issue with my boyfriend, despite us displaying no visible signs of intoxication. He claimed that my boyfriend had “stumbled in,” when we simply walked through the door. He asked where we had come from, and I said dinner, and he asked how many drinks my boyfriend had. I said “1 with dinner,” And the bartender scoffed, stating that he didn’t believe us and that he’d been “doing this a while” (which seemed difficult to believe as he looked all but 20 years old). When my boyfriend looked annoyed, he said in an aggressive tone, “I’m just looking out for you pal,” And then, even though a moment before seemed as though he was going to serve us, in an apparent display of power, since we dared to say that he was mistaken, he declared that he could not serve my boyfriend. So we left, without argument. Let me tell you, I’ve been a server before and I know the signs that you’re supposed to look for when cutting someone off at the bar. Well, the bar manager might want to have this bartender retake his TIPS certification course, because my boyfriend showed NONE of those signs. He literally just walked in and calmly ordered a beer, and the bartender decided to exercise his power just because he could. It’s really too bad, because I liked this bar before, but now I don’t think I’ll...
Read moreGrabbed a quick basic meal here on a Wednesday night. Cozy local spot with high-top tables and bar seats--regular dining tables towards the back of the bar. We sat in a high-top by the window and enjoyed friendly service by the bartender on duty. He brought us our drinks quickly with menus; we shared an appetizer of Spring rolls--served piping hot with sweet & sour dip. Appeared to be 3-4 whole rolls sliced in half and presented in a round. I ordered chicken sliders with blue cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato and an order of fries on the side (extra $3.00). My husband ordered beef sliders (same toppings-he may have added cheese?) and a side of fries. Both meals were served hot and tasted fine--a bit expensive (fries should have been included at $16.00 for sliders), but then that's the Cape. This is a good, quick, basic spot to grab a meal--food well cooked and a warm, local pub atmosphere--given the cost of most restaurants on The Cape, The Seal Pub does what it...
