TL;DR the food is great. We've met some of the most amazing people there. We love it and go every other month or so. They are family-run, local and it's important to keep that in mind when you're visiting. There can be some inconsistencies in the presentation/cooking of the dishes. But they are always delicious.
The Whole Enchilada: We made a 3.5-day trip from Austin, TX to Vermont to make our new home nearby. Of course, your stuff never makes it in the same time you do, so we were on an air mattress in the living room and working all day long to clean the house and get ready for our furniture to arrive. Great excuse to eat out! This was the very first place we went on the October 2023 day we arrived. It was warm and cozy, and we sat near the fire. We had the brussel sprouts side, chowder, salmon, apple crisp, and crème brulée. It was so magical and we instantly fell in love with the place. Photos included! A few weeks later, remembering how much we loved the soup, I stopped back by to get some to go for my MIL and I. It was $16.95 soup, and they didn't have the right-sized to-go containers to give us the right amount of soup. They didn't say anything to me, but they discussed it among themselves, and still sold it that way. I was kind of miffed, but no big deal, I'll just eat it in person next time. It was so yummy. Then we went again and had a burger, the steak tips, and the soup. The soup was in a smaller bowl than originally, but seemed like the same price. It was still delicious. I think I would pay almost anything for that chowder, lol. My burger wasn't cooked medium (was super red inside) but had a great flavor. I took it home to eat it as a leftover. The soup is filling! My husband's steak tips were amazing! Not our best visit. Then we went again recently and everything was PERFECT! I had a shrimp po-boy special AMAZING and my husband had the steak tips again (it's so good). We ran into our favorite server from there (at Ocean State Job Lot) and she mentioned she had left that restaurant, but we'll still be back. The other servers are lovely, too! BOTTOM LINE: Eat here. Soak up the local vibe. Love...
Read moreSo my 1st time in was 3 weeks ago it was just ok not cheap but the food did taste fresh, So we came back the next week 2# visit, at that time some of the food they cooked came out just right but then some was way over cooked , they have only been open now for 1 month So we go back for are 3rd time thinking they are getting better, we order the same Dish from last week came out 1 not good at all could not eat it, The owner came over and her self said that does not look right at all , So me and my wife said let's just get dessert because there desserts have been very good ea time in the past were good but not this time, It turns out the owners have never been in the restaurant business before. I know it's not easy at all and most of all getting help is not easy. But if a owner who does not know how the food should come out will never know what's good or what bad, the drinks at the Bar ea time was very good and the same drink ea time in. The charged us for the meals they said was not right and we did not eat dinner , that night cost $87 not to eat they see us each week .The owner asked us will you be coming back , I said it's going to be a long time before I come back , so they lost $100 aweek that's just two of us . We want this place to do well because we want to eat good food in woodsville, at this point in time I give it 1 to 10 with 40 yrs in the restaurant business I give it a 4.9 only because I think the food is fresh food if they can just make the same dish ea time we come in that would be nice , the sauce was like...
Read moreWe are staying at the Nootka Lodge 1/4 mile away and wanted something local. We originally wanted to just get takeout, but be aware, THEY DO NOT do take out, as the google search said they do. The place has a great atmosphere, very quaint, with friendly staff. Very clean and the food was excellent! My gf ordered baked stuffed shrimp, rice pilaf & fries. Best rice pilaf I have ever eaten. Perfectly seasoned, as was the stuffed shrimp, that were perfectly cooked. I wanted the chicken picatta, which was no longer on the menu, but they were able to make it for me as they still had ingredients. Again, best chicken piccata I’ve ever had. Very balanced flavors, chicken medallions were kinda small for the price ($24) but again, flavors, service & atmosphere made it worth it, and being a small local business, I don’t mind. We will DEFINITELY be back! Thank you to the staff! Enjoy! I’ve added the most recent menu pics as the others were...
