There was a lot of construction going on, so there were tarps hanging, piles of construction materials, debris etc. around the restaurant. Despite making our reservations a month in advance, we were seated at a table with a great view of the fire extinguisher and the restroom sign. 75% of our entrees were average. One of our party ordered the Ribeye, which was objectively bad. Tough (cutting it even with a steak knife was a workout) and way oversalted. It was also poorly plated, so the mashed potatoes were runny. Our server started out OK, but for some reason, despite suggesting it herself, she brought out an entire pot of coffee for the four of us along with 4 very large cups, and a teeny tiny pitcher of cream that was basically enough for 1 person. No big deal. We politely requested more and also asked that she bring some more sugar packets (the container only had 2, the rest were artificial sweeteners). After 3 of us had finished our desserts with still no sign of the additional cream and sugar (or our server), we repeated the request to another server. About a minute later, our server appears with sugar and cream...in a clear plastic Solo cup(?!) and a sour face. Considering that this was a nearly $400 meal, that seemed pointedly petty and inappropriate. There were absolutely larger containers available for cream (one of our party had received one filled with Bailey's for his coffee). That was the first - and only - such negative service experience I've had all week here, which made it all the more jarring. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant given all the other, better...
Read moreAm finally getting around to my review from New Years Eve ... let me qualify the two stars by saying that the staff and the location/ambience deserve 5 stars but the food didn't deserve any. How this restaurant can charge the prices they do for such substandard food is beyond me! I can get a better meal at the corner cafe. We were a group of eight and not one meal was satisfactory. Even the wait staff realized it was not up to scratch and at least gave us complimentary dessert. The desserts were amazing, but then they weren't made on site either. I had duck confit for a very pricey $43 and it was one leg that was sooooo tiny I thought they had made a mistake. It was the size of a small chicken wing ?? It wasn't enough to feed a bird. The asparagus it came with was almost mush it was so overcooked. A couple of others at our table had the steak which they couldn't cut or chew it as it was so tough can't remember what the others had but they were all so disappointed in the quality. There was also not much to choose from on the menu. I would never go back and we have all made a point of telling everyone we know how poor it was. I really like to give a restaurant the benefit of the doubt but when all eight people at your table have a terrible meal there's no way I...
Read moreDined at Napa expecting an unforgettable experience. That’s exactly what we got for all the wrong reasons. Outdoor seating comes with outdoor realities. The restaurant’s misstep was not trying to mitigate anything to improve the overall dining atmosphere. Our table was adjacent to a large tree which dropped small leaves and flowers onto the table and food. A suggestion for the restaurant would be an umbrella. Gnats swarmed the area & a few of those also perished…withun the condensation on the water glass, in the butter that came with the bread, and unceremoniously in my main. A suggestion is to have the spinning fly deterrent on the table and not wait for guests to request it.
My water arrived in a cracked glass which they kindly replaced. Apps were fine, and I do recommend the Nduja toast which had a nice flavor. The Ahi catch of the day was appropriately seasoned, but the accompanying sauce had so much salt the total combination was not palatable. We skipped dessert.
Canoe House, Halani, and Brown’s Beach House are nearby, have better food, better service, and a direct view of the sunset which isn’t impeded by a rocky outcropping as it is at Napua. Go elsewhere for a much more refined dining...
