Looking for the ultimate Island experience while you are in Hawaii? We stayed at the Islands at Mauna Lani and we just have to tell you about the unit we stayed at. All the units are different but we chose this one for its close location to the pool and incredible attention to the details of its furnishings! D4 is like living in an art gallery or museum of fine art! Every room has been meticulously staged to please the eye and provide every possible convenience for those lucky enough to stay here. There are several original pieces of artwork by world renowned artist Gary Paul Stutler. Not reproductions, the real deal! (Only available in D4 at this time)! The upper level master suites must be seen in person to be truly appreciated! The master bedroom is absolutely gorgeous featuring hand painted ceiling motifs that one can study for hours on end. Plenty of room for all our needs including all popular streaming services to choose from! The private balcony provides views of an incredibly maintained backyard featuring the sweet music of many of Hawaii’s native songbirds and other wildlife! The second master has an adjoining, full bathroom and its own balcony providing a private second suite of sorts. There is even more bedroom space available if needed in the form of a trundle bed tucked into a convenient location on the upper floor. The upper main bathroom is huge featuring a ample bath and shower with full length two sink vanity. It is just as much a work of art as it is utilitarian in nature. Absolutely exquisite! The main floor features a huge family room, a large indoor dining area, and modern kitchen with all the amenities! Feel like a BBQ? Both downstairs patios provide enough space for two families with table, seating areas, and a wonderful BBQ grill to entertain your guests or family! The downstairs also features a half bathroom and washer/dryer completing a well rounded feel to all our needs! Just steps away, is the pool at the Islands! A waterfall flowing into the pool provides the perfect Island obeisance to the most incredible pool experience in the area! A large sauna (hot-tub) is located right next to the pool with a jacuzzi option to melt away the stress of the day and bubble away the aches and pains after a fruitful day at the adjoining golf course! There is also a BBQ area here with plenty of seating, outdoor BBQ grills, an indoor kitchen complete with stove, oven, and refrigerator! Every comfort has been seen to so we and our entire family can’t help but enjoy our stay! As a guest, we also got a pass to the Mauna Lani Beach club just down the road! We checked pricing at several venues before our stay and found D4 to be the best deal on the island even without all the posh amenities and associated perks! Treat yourself, your family and friends to the best the Island of Hawaii has to offer for...
Read moreWe just returned yesterday from six nights at this beautiful property, unit A2 at the Islands at Mauna Lani. The main reason for four stars instead of five is the cost - $550/night (plus a substantial security deposit, which we expect to get back). There were just four of us (and it easily holds six). Since other reviews note that it’s a great value, it might be that I am underestimating the cost of a place to stay in August. If you can get this place for close to the $350/night shown in the VRBO rates section, it is well worth it.||||All the rooms are well-appointed, as are the outside areas. The grill worked well (although the electronic starter didn’t work). The kitchen is great, and it was full of spices - we did quite a bit of cooking. The coffee machine makes great coffee. There’s a large rice cooker. No complaints about the kitchen (although the knives aren’t too sharp). The pictures provided on VRBO show exactly what you can expect throughout the house.||||On the other hand, as noted in some reviews, you cannot hear (or see) the ocean from here. And while you can walk to places (The Shops are less than a mile away, as is the Mauna Lani hotel, and the Beach Club is a mile by foot), it was about 91F each day and we did very little walking. We did drive to the Shops fairly often, though, and to the Fairmont hotel at least once a day. The Shops has (among other things) a good Foodland store (the gourmet store referenced in another review), Tommy Bahamas and Ruth’s Chris.||||And the property is air conditioned, with separate Nest thermostats for each of the two floors. Given the outside temperature, this was critical!||||Donna was great, always replying within minutes of my sending a message. We had a few small problems with the property, but nothing that impacted our vacation.||||I’d recommend this property if you don’t need to be next to the ocean, if you need the space, and if the price suits you. We were very...
Read moreRun if anyone suggests this property. We rented 2 two bedroom townhouses from September 28- October 1, 2022. We were not informed in advance that there is no onsite office. It is a gated community. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Wednesday with no way to get into the gate or the townhouses. When we called the phone number provided for the resort, we got a recording saying it was no longer in service. We went to a nearby hotel hoping they could help but they couldn't. After an hour of trying to get into the resort, someone in our group contacted bookings.com who had nothing to do with booking our trip but they were kind enough to locate an afterhours number for the resort. When we called, we were told that their offsite office closed at 6:00pm during the week. We were given the gate code and the codes to the lock boxes for the townhouses. The interiors of the townhouses have not been updated in decades. The Wifi did not work. The cable TVs worked sporadically. The bathrooms are outdated and full of mold. The beds had sheets and a thin blanket but no comforter. You were literally looking at the box springs. The showerheads are the very tiny heads from the 1980s. You had to be less than 5'8" tall to use the shower and the water trickled out. Both bedrooms are upstairs. There is only one thermostat upstairs. One bedroom was freezing and the other was hot no matter what the thermostat was set on. Do not be fooled by the pictures on the website. We were and so were our neighbors. The people who rented the townhouse next door to us came over and were furious. They were faced with the same issues I have outlined above. These townhouses look nice on the exterior but are old and disgusting on the inside. We stayed at two beautiful resorts on Maui and Kuai that were equally priced and in the middle of many attractions. This place is literally in the middle of nowhere. If you stay here, be prepared to travel significant distances to...
