The Hive is an absolutely darling little cafe in the charming village of Honomu. This is a “must stop” for coffee, breakfast, brunch, or lunch on the way to/from Akaka Falls. The owner and staff radiate warmth and kindness. Having lived outside of Seattle for a number of years and then living 11+ years on Oahu, we are admittedly coffee-obsessed. When the coffee grinder in our rental cottage didn’t work, we dragged our bleary-eyed selves out in search of our morning coffee fix. Thankfully, we discovered this gem, and the owner served us glorious cappuccinos and Americanas. Our 12-year-old son enjoyed the cafe’s signature lemonade with its edible floral and fruit decorations. The menu features a myriad of sandwiches, salads, and desserts. The cafe is decorated with wooden shelves covered in artfully arranged cuts of amethyst, tropical plants, Hawaii honey, and an array of local artisans’ handcrafted products (aprons, essential oil blends, artwork, etc.). There are children’s books available for guests to enjoy. My husband and son found Waldo while we waited for our order. We returned every day of our stay for more!

For me, The Hive was an incredible find! I stumbled in on a Sunday morning, looking for a latte. I was really excited because the flavors on the menu seemed quite exotic. The owner definitely isn't afraid to think outside the box (or should I say, outside the cup?) I went with the Habibi latte, which was flavored with cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and vanilla. It was exquisite, paired with a big, fresh, flakey croissant. As I was waiting, I looked around the cafe and noticed a plethora of healthy snacks for sale (grain free, organic, etc.) I expressed my delight to the barista and she informed me that the owner is passionate about serving fresh, locally sourced produce. She added that much of it is grown right in their own garden which is outside the back door! I was so impressed with the Hive's commitment to fresh, healthy and delicious options that I can't recommend it enough!

I was in Hawaii for vacation and I was going to the rainbow falls, when in little town i saw the beautiful cafe, i mainly stop just to see inside and i was greeted with warm welcome, what made me feel belong to island. I looked arround and I saw i beautiful earrings and I bought them… when I was living I saw other interesting things and I ended up forgetting my earrings somewhere, I contacted them and Steph immediately responded and sent me my earrings without charging the mailing cost, that means a lot for me, because as business I know every little thing add in costs. I wanted to share this because I value business and people like Steph. I have been wearing the earrings every day since I got them. God blessings to you my dear!

This cute and cozy cafe is close to the Akaka Falls park. It is a perfect stop for right before you head out to the trail. Despite being in a bit of a remote location on the Big Island, they have a large selection of coffee and food. If you are looking to try poi, they have it here! The cafe also supports local businesses with their little shop area containing items and merch from local artists and such. I am a big fan of their coffee (I got a hot oat milk white chocolate latte) and also loved the casual and cozy vibes the place had. Their drinks are also super aesthetic and works of art in general!

Since the area the cafe is in has no Internet, the Hive has free wifi available.

The owner works there herself and is so wholesome, kind, and passionate about the cafe and everything having to do with it. It was really refreshing to hear and learn about how the cafe came to be and to see her ideas come to fruition there. I definitely recommend to zoom over to try the food, drinks,...
