If you’re anywhere near Bayview and don’t stop at Captain’s Wheel, I’m convinced you don’t actually like joy. This place is boat-friendly, people-friendly, and most importantly stomach-friendly. Easy access from the water means you can dock, eat, and pretend you’re a fancy yacht owner all in one smooth move.
Now let’s talk food. Everyone raves about the “adult grilled cheese,” and for good reason it’s not your childhood sandwich. This thing is like grilled cheese that went abroad, studied philosophy, and came back wearing designer shoes. Gooey, golden, and downright addictive. If sandwiches had dating profiles, this one would be totally in my league.
The staff? Quick with a smile and the kind of people who make you feel like you’ve been a regular for years even if you just showed up in flip-flops asking if they serve fries by the pound (they don’t, but they should).
Bottom line: Captain’s Wheel is proof that happiness floats and it tastes like an adult...
Read moreWaitress was very nice, the view was beautiful, and they had a yard and deck area so your pets can dine with you which I appreciated so we didn't have to order to go. However, the place is so dirty. Everything was covered with cobwebs and gnats, the deck stairs are falling apart, and the service was so so so slow. We came for lunch around 2pm and, with only a few people inside and 1 other party outside, it took us nearly 2.5 hours total to get menus, order, get our food, eat, wait for the check and leave. It wasn't worth the wait either, I got their philly burger that was supposed to come with au jus to dip it in, priced at $18 and it was bland, nothing had any flavor and the waitress didn't even know the burger was supposed to come with au jus and she said she'd been working there for years... All in all we both were very unimpressed and won't be coming back. Not worth the $53 we spent, as you can get more flavor...
Read moreMy husband and I were able to go to Bayview a couple days ago, and ended up having lunch at the Captain's Wheel. They had a good selection of local beers, including two of our favorites (Irish Death by Iron Horse & a chocolate coffee Stout by Boise Brewing). We shared the clams as an appetizer (a little pricey at $10, but enough to share, which was great). I really enjoyed the daily special which happened to be two lobster tacos with awesome fries for $12, and my husband got the Cod Club with fries that he really liked. Lunch with three beers came out to $42, which wasn't unreasonable. Our waitress was absolutely fabulous, and I wish we had gotten her name. She was the only one working the floor -running all the rooms, bartending, serving, etc. And did it with a great smile and attitude. The next time we are in the area, we will...
