La Pena Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Hazard

Food was hot and fresh and Francisco was an excellent waiter. All of the waiters were nice and attentive. I debated on going in, because I'm driving back to Lexington, and it was 6pm. So glad I did. I was impressed with the short amount of time it took for them to have my order out. It had to have only been 5 minutes. I ordered the shrimp taco, beef tostada, and a cheese enchilada. Everything was hot and fresh, including the cheese enchilada. The cheese enchilada is usually hardened by the time I get it when I eat most places, but it had just been melted so was still warm and cheesy. Hospitality could be improved upon. The first impression was of being rushed, that I didn’t care for so much. Literally 3 min after ordering the food arrived. Some would be thrilled but that is entirely too fast for what should be fresh, made to order food. When I asked if the food was microwaved (obviously) the server turned his back on me and walked away. The Manager did come over to offer new plate which was professional and appreciated. Today was my 51 birthday. I grew up in New Mexico. I've been looking for specific menu items for many years like sopapilla but they had it. Not like I remember but really good. Didn't know it was a southwest thing. I had the Chef special of ribeye with cheese and mushrooms. The flavors and spices, the music in the background, I forgot I was in Kentucky for a while.
