I had heard of this place for a long time, many of my Hispanic friends have eaten here and this was a known seafood restaurant in Hialeah. I finally decided to come for my boyfriend's birthday with our son and my dad and it was just a bad experience. We should've gotten up and left when we had the chance.
For starters, we called to ensure they had oysters and an employee confirmed they did, so we decided to give it a try. When we walked up the entrance was filled with water as they were cleaning the outdoor windows. We are then seated to be told that they do not sell oysters, on the shell only cocktail oysters and they do not have horseradish. As we were already seated, and everyone was hungry we decided to give it a try anyway but honestly we should've just gotten up and left. The place was completely empty and should've been a sign. As we are ordering another couple walks in and are seated as well.
We begin to order an appetizer (fried Calamari), which was overcooked and battered up all together. The sauce served with it not good either. I should probably also mention that my boyfriend has been in the food industry for years and to top it off they had tartar sauces on each table which is something that should be refrigerated.
We also ordered two bowls of soups, my dad orders a grouper soup and my boyfriend ordered a cream of lobster. The cream of lobster had a yellowish color (creams are normally white) and was served in a cup size instead of a bowl. My dad's soup was all water with very small bits of fish towards the bottom and very little flavor and was served in a bowl.
I ordered shrimp fettuccini, the pasta was dry and seemed old (you could see the fridge burn) and the sauce was clumpy and had an odd smell. I ended up picking the shrimp out of it only as I didn't want to seem like a problematic customer.
My dad and boyfriend orders the seafood rice (one had a lobster the other didn't). Both were dry, barely had seafood in it, clam/mussel shells were empty and the lobster was old and rubbery. When we realized this was mostly likely BAD SHELL FISH! we immediately called the manager and just tried to explain everything was horrible including my dad's and my food.
He only removed my boyfriends food, although my dad didn't touch his rice either and didn't really care to make our experience better. He wasn't very sympathetic nor trying to understand what could've probably gone wrong with our experience or spoken to the cook or even tried to remedy. It was horrible.
This is the worst dining experience I have ever encountered and it was just sad how those employees think its OK to treat a customer how they did us. We weren't rude and honestly only spoke up because it was empty otherwise we would've just paid and left and even then we paid for horrible food. The upside to this whole experience was our waiter which had no fault in the food being horrible and was sweet and caring throughout the whole ordeal. The manager on the other...
Read moreI had a memory of a place that when I was a kid my Father enjoyed so much and what a mistake it was! I was around the area and I thought Fish it is. Cod Fritters (Frituras de Bacalao). They had only the scent of Cod Oil maybe ! but no Cod fish for sure. Fried Calamari (Calamares Fritos) whomever is cooking they need to know oil temperatures and proper competitive recipes! It was soggy, room temperature the shrimp tomato sauce must go!!! Fried Fish Sandwich (Minuta) had no flavor, it was.a colorful piece.of soggy fried fish with a generic tartar sauce not even Hot less than room temperature. Steak Sandwich (Pan con bistec) OMG I was craving an impossible!! The only good part was the bread, the traditional crispy potatoes disappeared, they added some potato fried crumbles that don't help much, soggy and with a seafood after taste. Daily Specials (Especiales del Sabado) Pescado relleno con camarones incluso 2 acompanantes.. If you like a Fish Pizza it is your dish!! It doesn't say anywhere in the menu anything about Cheese but is topped heavily with mozzarella, vegetables looked like just came out of the frozen bag.. Service was gracious and the male server did a great job holding the restaurant until 12pm when 3 servers walked in but the rush was gone. Probably nobody from the administration will ever see this review but I am sure it will help others... My memories are shut I wouldn't go...
Read more"This place has been here for ages" should be a sign of a successful business! I had visited when I was young with my parents and figured a return trip was due! Mom and I were excited. Upon arrival, you can smell the food being prepared from the parking lot! Good thing? Maybe. But I stepped in, and the place looked like it did moons ago, the smells had permeated what was once a well-known fishery in West Hialeah. I think the place has lost a little bit of charm and is in need of a good cleaning and make over. It looked like something from the 80's. The service was ok, the food, ok too, but I wasn't particularly impressed. For starters, they were out of shrimp to make a shrimp cocktail and the cocktail and tarter sauces both tasted like they came from a jar. When it came time to pay, I was shocked to learn they didn't accept American Express. What restaurant doesn't accept Amex? With so many so-called seafood places in the local area, I would really like to see La Minutera raise their...
