Oscar's Restaurant — Restaurant in Hiawatha

We went for my daughter's birthday breakfast. My husband and I both got the steak and eggs breakfast (med-rare). Our steaks were cooked accurate to temp but were extremely cold when we got them (it was bizarre). The kids pancakes looked fine but I didn't try them so I cannot comment on taste (my daughter took one bite and said she was full). The kids cheeseburger was not finished by my burger loving son so I assume he didn't care for it (and he gave his sister his fries so those probably weren't great either). The coffee was watered down but they kept my cup at least half full, so I guess that was a plus.

Staffing wise, we came at a busy time (mid-morning the day after Christmas) and they seemed to be short staffed. There was a sign that said "wait to be seated" so we waited to be sat (not a big deal). But, then a waitress yelled across the restaurant to where we could sit. We waited for 5 minutes before getting a menu then at least another 7 before someone took our order.

I'm really disappointed as the other reviews were so good. We like to try little local places but would have been way better off going to IHOP or something. Hubby and I said that we definitely wouldn't be...

We arrived on a Saturday morning of the 4th of July weekend. Through no fault of their own, they were short staffed, and the dining room was packed. After being seated we waited slightly longer than expected for menus and drink orders, but this was due to our assigned waitress being stretched thin. From that point in, the experience was stellar. The coffee was some of the best I have had in a local diner. My eggs were perfect over easy, the ham was flavorful, tender and had just the right amount of caramelization. My pancake was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The pancakes are sweet cream rather than buttermilk and have a hint of vanilla in the flavor. My wife's eggs and bacon were also perfect with the bacon being crispy but not burned. My coffee did not go dry and service was superb after the initial small hiccup. The portions were moderate and allowed for a good meal without feeling stuffed. We look forward...

I will absolutely never come here again. From the time my family and i came in until the time we actually placed our order it had already been nearly 40 minutes before a waitress came over. After we placed our order, they told us half hour later that some of our order could not be completed because they had ran out of stuff. We ended up having to quickly think of something else we would want. Also the food wasn't hot. Absolutely a negative experience. I also noticed that there was a few other unsatisfied customers complain about their orders as well. We asked to speak to a manager only to get yelled at. Absolutely NOT a place i recommend for anyone at all whatsoever. This type of behavior is completely out of line and should not be accepted. Especially in front of the kids. Too bad a 1 star is all the lower i can give. It honestly deserves...
