I came out to Johnny's Hideout last weekend with a group specifically to see the live music by John Shanahan. One of my group called ahead and was able to reserve us 2 tables for 20 people.
I thought this was a bar, but was pleasantly surprised to find when I got there it's a restaurant bar and their menu shows it. Very heavy cajun inspiration on the menu which I was excited about. I hadn't really planned to eat a lot but ended up ordering he cajun chicken sandwich with Krack fries. Both were really good. I'm not really sure what the "krack" fry is about. I asked the waitress and see said it's a seasoned fry but my fries didn't look or taste seasoned...they were still good though so I wasn't too worried about it. I also tasted the cajun shrimp that someone else ordered - VERY good.
The live music was very cool. It was set up inside and acoustic so good volume and not overwhelming. The setup here is pretty big - there's a front outdoor area, the inside is seperated into bar on the right and restuarant on the left and I saw another outside area with a movie type screen and chairs out back (it was dark). The musician said when the weather is warmer they sometimes do the live music outside. I'd definitely come back for that.
Our waitress was good keeping up with our party, answering questions, keeping my water filled - this is very important to me when I'm the only non-drinker, I frequently get forgotten. The food was slow... not a little slow, VERY slow... took over 40 minutes after we ordered our food. To be fair, the waitress let us know they were short a person in the kitchen and food was taking longer than normal. Also I came prepared to spend 3 hours watching the live music so I wasn't too worried about it. But this is good to know if you are in a hurry.
Overall this has to be the coolest place in this general area which is fairly rural. It's not much a drive from STL county. I'd love to come back in warmer weather and eat...
Read moreWe met up with friends for dinner and to listen to the live band playing outside on Wednesday, September 20th. We enjoyed our meal and the wait staff were friendly and efficient. After our meal, we headed outside to listen to the band after the rain stopped. We didn't know it was bike night until we arrived and noticed that the front parking lot had signs for bike parking only. My husband is a disabled veteran, and he has a handicapped placard in our car. We parked in a designated handicapped parking spot near the front door with no issues. As we were sitting outside waiting for the band to start, the owner approached my husband, and told him he needed to move our car out of the handicapped parking space because it is reserved for the bikes! He didn't ask him, he told him to move. He was told to park across the street in a dark gravel lot filled with potholes. My husband not wanting to argue and cause a scene, he grabbed his cane and moved the car. The owner was terribly rude and hateful toward us for taking up parking that he thought should go to a bike. I am considering reporting him to the ADA for not allowing my husband to have easy access to a safe and properly designated parking for his disability. Though we enjoyed visiting with our friends and listening to the band, we plan to never patronize this establishment again. We were embarrassed by the owner demanding us to move in front of our friends and other customers. Treating my husband like he wasn't worthy of the parking spot. So if you are handicapped and it's bike night, DO NOT visit Johnny's Hideout. You will be treated like trash. *1 star for a horrible owner! *No handicapped parking on bike night....
Read moreI visited this establishment on October 8 2022 for take out dinner. I ordered a Texas burger which consisted of a burger with cheese, bacon, onion straws, and bbq sauce...and chose the baked beans as a side...I also asked for lettuce, tomato, and onion on the side. I decided to have a drink while I waited for my food....big mistake. I asked for a Pina Colada but they couldn't make that, so the drink menu had Jake's High Ridge Painkiller that consisted of rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, creme de coconut, and a garnishment. Couldn't taste the pineapple juice or the coconut, so needless to say, I didn't even finish half. My food came and I paid my bill which was $20.88!!! When I got home, I went to put the extra garnishments on my burger and the slice of tomato was so thin you could see through it, the lettuce was nasty, and no onions. I took my first bite and all I got was a huge hunk of fat from the bacon that wasn't even cooked done and the baked beans were so spicy I couldn't eat them. I went to the Facebook page to give a review, apparently Johnny didn't like it so he deleted it and has now blocked me from his Facebook account. Who does that???Johnny doesn't need to be in business if he can't take a negative review. Needless to say, he doesn't have to worry about me coming back. Oh yeah, there was a couple guys who were drinking at the bar near where I was sitting and one of them was complaining about his bill... apparently he had been charged $9 for a shot and was very upset, they both said they wouldn't be...
