I put in a reservation through OpenTable and we get there the owner says your not on my list very nasty and I said ok because now I really don't want to eat here if he's going to be snarky. My sister convinced me to stay. My sister discussed with him about there being 2 locations and he said the other was closed but this is the original and that this location is what made the other. My sister told me the other location was much better in term of size, ambience, and friendliness of the lady that ran it. Now the food, I had the oxtail stew. Everything on that plate tasted nasty from the rice and greens. Something was off putting from the taste to the thick so called oxtail that looked more like thick beef tips. My sister had the fried chicken with mac and cheese and cole slaw. I took a bite of her chicken and realized it was not properly seasoned. The only thing that was good was the crunch of the chicken. She told me everything else was nasty. The mac and cheese looked like they scrapped the bottom of the pan and dry. Other guest came and he told them they were not on the list but still sat them at a table. The cover charge went up to $11 to listen to someone play music. We didn't stay but heard Patty our server talk about us at the next table in how she could walk someone on out because they didn't want to pay the extra charge. The owner was rude when talking to other guest. We cut this horrible dining experience real short. My sister said I should have listened to you when you were ready to make an exit. Another lady sitting on the other side agreed with everything about the location and how it was more friendly and had room for dancing and listening to a DJ. We definitely will never ever come back. I definitely do not recommend this establishment for the high price of food, rude owner, and a server that bad mouth us to other patrons.

I came here based upon a recommendation of a friend and let me tell you, this place delivered! Between the live band, who were phenomenal, to the great food and vibes of the place, it really made for an eventful evening. Now, when first pulling up, I will admit, I thought the place was going to be bigger and not in the cut, but this is what adds to its appeal. As my friend and I didn't have reservations, we ended up sitting at the bar. I noticed that this place fills up quickly, so for the future, I would definitely make reservations so we are sitting at a table. We started off with some drinks and ordered fried green tomatoes to start. The fried green tomatoes were prepared differently than what we were expecting, but they were good! The breading to tomato ratio was perfect, it wasn't overly greasy and surprisingly the cheese added a new flavor element to that dish. I ended up getting grilled shrimp with zucchini succotash and Mac and cheese and my friend got fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens. I thought my shrimp was excellent! It was well seasoned and not overly cooked. I liked the zucchini succotash, as it had a ton of garlic and I thought the Mac and cheese was ok. If the Mac and cheese had a tad bit more salt, it would have been great. My friend liked her fried chicken and her sides as well. All in all, this made for a fantastic evening! The great thing about this place is they have live music every week, which makes it stand out from other places in the area! For me, live music and great food always makes for a great time and the next time I'm in town, I will definitely have to stop by.

The place was a low-key, in-the-cut, really good soul food spot. I got shrimp and grits with gravy on them, and that was the bomb! Seasoning and flavor in every bite without it being so overwhelming. My girlfriend got the fried chicken, yams, Mac and cheese, and collard greens. The fried chicken was delicious, and the yams were amazingly good! Really sweet! The collard greens were a little mushy, but suitable. The Mac and cheese could have been better. It tasted like regular basic baked Mac and cheese. But it did not have the melted texture of really good baked Mac and cheese. I also had their sweet potato pecan pie. It was terrific and well worth it if you have a small space for sweets after you’ve eaten. The place also has people come in and play live music. Now the only thing I didn’t like about the place was how small it was. The place filled up quickly and we had to move down just for other people to fit. Also, due to the small space, it is highly recommended that you make reservations. We walked in and were told that the bar was the only available space to seat us because we were walk-ins. But overall it was a very good experience. The servers were very friendly and courteous, and they took care of all of our needs while we were there. I will definitely be considering returning here when I come back to Hilton Head!

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE?

Making the customer feel appreciated, even when they are not please, is the goal. That was not accomplished in our experience at Ruby Lees. We made reservation party of 4 to celebrate my mother in law 64th birthday. Food never arrived after 2 hours of placing the order. The host/owner was totally clueless with NO customer service. Then host/owner got mad and told my family to leave.

TIMELINE: 7:05 pm Arrived the host/owner walked up front and said, “Do you have reservations?” as if I was trespassing on private property.”

7:30 pmWaitress takes our order and Deaz Guys began to perform.

7:45 pmWaitress returns twice and asked what I ordered and did I want the shrimp fried.

8:00 pmWaitress brings the drinks and a different waitress brings 4 dinners that we did not order. This continued to happen throughout the night.

8:30/9:00 pm Waitress does not return…We still have not been served. Now we are speaking with the host/owner. This was no help because he did not show any concerns and he was just ass clueless as the waitress that was missing. The only thing the owner cared about was how many people he could get into this tiny restaurant. 100% sure exceeded occupancy limit. Dance floor was six by six.

9:00 pm: Waitress returns to our table from being missing for 30 minutes. I told her don’t worry about my table orders and we will be leaving as soon as my mother in law returned from the restroom. (Long line to get in the restroom)

9:15 pm: Hosted/owner come to the table with two plates in his hands which still was not right. He said, “HERE’S YOUR FOOD!” I told him I cancelled that order 15 minutes ago. Then he got very upset and said, “HERE’S YOUR FOOD!” I told him he could eat it because I did not want it. Then he got really loud with me and said, “I DON’T LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE”.

9:16 pm: Now my husband is involved because he hears how disrespectful the host/owner is talking to me. Once my husband stood up and told the host/owner a few encouraging words then everything changed. The host told us to leave by taking loud and just truly being unprofessional. Now I feel like am at a comedy show b/c this is truly funny to me. The only reason I went to Ruby Lees was to hear the sounds of Deaz Guys. Nevertheless I will not be returning to Ruby Lees. I will continue to support Deaz Guys but it will be at The Jazz Corner which is less than 10 minutes away. Better Food, Better Service, Better Sound System, the table is yours for the ENTIRE night and reservations are confirmed by email and telephone. The Jazz Corner would never ask you to leave because they appreciate all of...

Maybe we went on a bad night but last night was not what we expected. Having never been to this establishment, we relied on the reviews which were mostly raving about the ambience and of course the food.

If you don't frequent Hilton Head then you should really pay attention to your GPS while trying to find the establishment which is on a dark street in a not so well lit strip mall (if you want to call it that)

After parking, we could hear the live music as we approached the front door, which was encouraging. However besides there being no seating inside, the music was deafening once the door was opened so to spare our ears from reverbrating we remained outside.

Our waitress Marie was very welcoming and wanted to ensure we sat under a heat lamp to minimize the elements. Tim, the owner came out and was very friendly and let us know that inside seating would be available once the band took it's break in about 5 minutes ( the break actually happened about 45 minutes later)

We overheard Tim discuss with another table that the kitchen was beyond short staffed but was doing a superb job of getting orders out correctly and promptly, again that tidbit was promising.

I ordered the 3 piece chicken dinner and kudos for giving me the 2 thighs and one leg as requested but I found the macaroni and cheese dry and flavorless, the collard greens overly vinegary and sadly the well seasoned chicken was cooked in either old or burnt grease.

My sister ordered the 5 piece wings with macaroni and cheese plus yams on the side. She too was disappointed with her meal as the yams were too sweet and like mine the dry mac and cheese left her underwhelmed.

Again, maybe we showed up on a bad night, the place was packed and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves so we expected to have the same experience. Sadly we did not!

Side note: Really wanted to order the Catfish but couldn't justify paying $22.00 for one medium filet! For that price, there should be two filet's!

Will we go back? Probably since we enjoyed the music that catered to the mature crowd but we will wait until the weather warms up a bit so sitting outside is...

This is one of the worst restaurants I have experienced. First, the restaurant is a hole in the wall. There was a man sitting outside on patio holding a remote control trying to fix the TV. He stands up and asked if we had reservations. He looks down at a napkin where you can see hand written names for a reservation. What kind of technology is that?? Didn't know you had to have one but no. So we had to sit outside to eat. Patio had different furniture to sit on that looked like it came from somebody house. Silverware was a mixture. Mosquitoes galore, and they didn't have any lighting on the patio except from the parking lot light that shines onto the patio. Waitress took our order and never came back to table until bill was paid. Ordered app of lemon pepper wings, and there was no lemon, just salt and pepper. Food took 40 minutes to come out and of course, mac n cheese was dry, sweet potatoes was not cooked and drenched in sugar water, and salmon wasn't cooked all the way. So waited for waitress to come back to let her know the food was not good and couldn't find her. So I'm assuming the man with remote control from earlier was a manager or owner and came to table to ask if I wanted a box. No! I want it off my bill. He stated I ate the food which I hadn't bc it was still on plate. So he compensates me by taking 50% off my water downed drink and terrible food. Bill still came to $85 with my husband food. Now if u you are a manager or owner you shouldn't be walking around restaurant with a glass of red wine drinking in front of customers. Second your attitude sucks! U never once apologized for your waitress being MIA. He was very arrogant and condescending like his stuff don't stink. All he had to do was communicate if the kitchen was backed up or waitress is behind to let us know whats going on. And I forgot to say she had 2 other tables out on patio next to us and she never waited on, he did. The live band that was playing would of been good if they get a new lady to sing with band. She was horrible and off key! Band was fine but she sucked! Please don't go and waste your time and money at...
