This course has a challenging layout and some unique features. Without a ton of water, there's still rough you need to contend with and sand in strategic areas. If you're a long-hitter, you're going to be quite safe in most instances IF your short game is good. Keeping the ball straight is necessary on about 75% of the holes (but that's the way it is at most courses), but there are a few holes that don't punish you badly if you go awry. Toughest holes are 14, 3 and 7. Mostly because of how you're aimed at the tee box and the danger that exists off to the sides.
The restaurant facility management changes pretty regularly, but the current management is good and the food and service is quite acceptable. Beer selection is good and they even allow you to buy beer in the restaurant to bring on the course with a complementary cooler (you need to return this after your round).
Drawbacks... Never enough rangers keeping play moving. This has been a problem here FOREVER. You often see the player assistance carts driving around, but play can be slow here from time to time. There could be more signs for first-timers. People unfamiliar with the course slow up groups behind them by not parking carts in the right spot or not moving ahead to the next tee efficiently --- mostly because they don't know where to go next. I've even run into folks who go the wrong way at holes 4 and 13 because of no signs.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreSouth shore country club was a pleasant surprise, a treat, a gem, if it indicates anything positive (Insert here). No, but real talk; the course has teeth, don't get it twisted; but the bite made it interesting, and interactive. The bite was right, as it was still gettable. The course is maintained beautifully with smooth rolling greens, but man, the undulation was baffling at times. Putts rolled true, but I needed some more time to acclimate to the slope. The tee shots and length made it very playable, though greens made approaches demanding and worthy of some deliberation. I'd play this course over and over again. Can't wait to come...
