I was excited to try out this local spot.. the parking lot is always full, so I figured it must be great, right? Well, not so much so.. 2 slaw dogs (with barely ANY slaw), 1 chilli dog, 1 French fry, 1 fried green tomato and 2 sodas.. total cost?? A MIND BLOWING $31!!! I thought the price was astronomical, but, Maybe they have HUGE servings... NOPE. It was Tiny food. Literally, you would get larger portions if you went to Dairy Queen and paid half the price. Now, we were asked to give a tip as we were ordering our food, not after we received service, which we didn't get any table service after being told that our waitress would take care of us while we were there. I digress. So the food comes out, she's carrying it on a tray and proceeds to try to sit the chili dogs directly on the table. No plates, no silverware, we didn't even have a paper placemat. I had the specifically ask for a piece of paper to sit on the table so my food wouldn't be touching the actual table. Then I had to go up and ask for a piece of silverware to eat my food with. Apparently that's not something that comes at this restaurant freely. I shared pictures of the size of the chili dogs in comparison with a salt shaker. A slawdog is nearly $5.. everything is served in little disposable paper containers. For the price of the food they charge it should be served on actual fine china. Our sodas did not even have straws that fit them appropriately. The cup is as tall as the straw. You would think for the cost of the food that they could afford at least a decent Straw for you to drink from. The decor inside the building leaves a lot to be desired. It may be late 70s early '80s Decor at best. When I asked the waitress why the prices were so astronomical for the servings you received, she said when we reopened about 6 months ago the owner skyrocketed the prices of everything in there except their wages. She said customers are frequently complaining about the cost of the food versus what you receive. The best thing I can say about the restaurant is it's clean. Other than the cleanliness I have no positive words. If you're looking for value for your money, go elsewhere. If you don't mind paying quadruple for what you receive, Kirks is the...
Read moreThink they might need to rethink how you order here. 1130 on a Sunday, there was a huge line. You order at the counter, then they bring you your food. They only had 1 person taking orders, so it was taking forever. Especially they don't have anything listed, for example, they have a K-burger, Big Ugly burger, think it was called a Hillbilly sub, but not what they were. Can get hotdog, but no listing of toppings. Naturally, when people went up, they would ask, "Whats the Big Ugly? What's on the sub?... What do you want on your hotdog, don't you know? What can I add? It just took too long. Then, 1/2 of the restaurant, no one would sit because it was full of people standing around in line. After the ordering ordeal, it was much better. It was busy, so it took a little while to get our food, maybe like 15 minutes, a 10 party ordered right before me. Looks like a 1960s diner inside. Outside, they have a patio with an amazing view of the river. Can see a bridge. Watch people floating or fishing. Real nice breeze. Do allow dogs on the porch. People don't bus their tables. They do have a guy that does, and he was working hard, but you can see some messy tables beforehand. Brought our food out to us. We really enjoyed it all. My hot dogs all the way, 1 with coleslaw, 1 without were tasty. My son said his fried chicken sandwich was juicy and hot. My daughter got a potato that was nice and soft. Onion rings were good, but $4.99 for the little bit we got was a bit pricey. We would come back, maybe try to hit a slower day. The...
Read moreVisiting Hinton and looking for brunch on a Saturday morning, Kirk’s was close by, on the river and had nice reviews. Bad move. We arrived at 10:56 AM. I was in the mood for some Biscuits & Gravy. We were informed they were out of that and were not making more.
So I decided on Eggs over easy, Country Ham, Wheat toast and Grits. Then, because I don’t find them often, I ordered Fried Green Tomatoes. My wife ordered the Breakfast Special with Eggs, Hash Browns, Sausage and Fried Apples. I also got a bottle of Apple Juice and water and my wife got Coffee.
We sat down, enjoying the view and talking. And talked. And talked. Finally after 50 minutes our food came. It had obviously been sitting since all the food was cold. Had we not waited so long, we would have asked for a refund and left. And on top of that, the waitress forgot my Grits. She went back to get my Grits and came back 10 minutes later with hot Grits, but after I had finished the rest of my meal.
Now this is a place that requires the payment and asks for a tip when you place the order, then food is brought out to you. I entered a 15% tip and would have also added more if service was good. Ok so in the future I will opt out of tip in advance.
I know staffing is low in many places but that is no excuse for cold food and spotty service. The only reason for two stars is for the great views on screened in patio by the river. But we will not be...
