Cranky Old Man again giving my honest and simple review of this establishment... You are going to find this neighborhood, Mom and Pop tavern to be just that. The building is old, but not run down. Seating is limited a few tables and a few tall bar tables. My compliments on the men's room being clean. Be aware that the bar and dining areas are open and smoking is allowed inside. As an appetizer I ordered the five piece shrimp dijon. The menu listed the shrimp as jumbo and they surely were, The appetizer was large enough for a meal and quite delicious. My dinner selection was sauteed lake perch. It came with seasoned fries coleslaw melted butter and tartar sauce. I wish that I had the presence of mine to count the fillets, there were approximately ten. The perch was lightly dusted not heavily crusted with the breading. I can honestly say that their lake perch and shrimp dijon could easily compete with middle to upper range restaurants. They prepare their seafood either grilled, deep-fried, or sauteed. Boiling it all down, if you don't mind the tavern atmosphere the food is very very good and...
Read moreMy family and I have been coming here since 2021, always enjoying the food, service, and atmosphere. I’ve recommended this place to many friends, and we’ve all made it a regular stop.
About a month ago, I was told by the bartender/waitress — kindly but still with a very strong assumption, I might add — that the owners had instructed her not to serve us because they believed we “don’t tip.” She said she didn’t want to do that to us, which I appreciated. I was surprised, as I always tip, and after reviewing my bank statements, I confirmed I’ve tipped here every visit. It seemed to be a case of mistaken identity, but it still left us feeling uncomfortable I made sure at the end I highlighted my tip on the bill to ensure its shown and again i went back to my bank statement and check and it appeared on there as well.
Tipping is such an important part of supporting restaurant staff, and I hope this situation was just a one-off misunderstanding. Up until then, every visit had been wonderful, and I’d like to see the same spirit of hospitality continue for everyone...
Read moreI seen an ad on Facebook for the taphouse having A St. Patrick’s Day dinner buffet. I’ve not had any good experiences in the eight years of being in this area without having any decent food on St. Patrick’s Day. Unless I made it myself of course. I took a chance after seeing a Facebook af and man, let me tell you. I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised! The food was out of this world!! The restaurant was clean and cheerful. The patrons were friendly. The bathrooms were nice and smelled good. The staff was terrific. They had corned beef and cabbage. Cabbage and noodles. Sheppards pie. All the fixings for a Rueben. Irish soda bread. Tons of butter and sour cream. All for about 15 dollars. I’d have paid twice that for this quality food. It was better than the slop they tried to pass off as Irish food at chief oniels in Chicago. I ate till I thought I was gonna explode. They serve food regularly and I’ll be back to try out their other fares. Thank you for making this little Irish girls st Patrick’s day a success. I am...
