If you like, huge portions, good taste, and very reasonable prices, Ray’s Cafe may be the place for you. However, you have to find street parking, seating is limited, there is no air-conditioning, its crowded, you may have to wait, and you have to pay cash. They run different specials on different days of the week. For example, they serve prime rib on Friday through Monday.
This is the only hole in the wall that I know of that serves prime rib, fresh fish, ribeye steak, king crab, lobster, rack of lamb, next to fried chicken, beef cutlet, pig’s feet soup, sari-sari, oxtail stew, hot cakes, and Vienna sausage omelet. Lol!
They are open for breakfast, lunch & dinner. You can also call in a takeout order and eat the comfort of your car, at the office or at home. Plates come with your choice of toss salad or Mac salad and you can bring your own wine or beer.
Overall: ** Food: * excellent! Very reasonable! Menu: ** great choices, varies daily Ambiance: * hole in the wall with no AC Service: * depends on when you go Parking: * Street parking only
RATINGS & RECOMMENDED ORDER: Prime Rib = A Rib Eye & King Crab = A Oxtail Stew = A Sari Sari = B Fried Chicken = B (look at the pictures of the food on Yelp or Google)

Read moreI've been going to Ray's since I was a kid and started at his original location in Chinatown before he moved to Kalihi. This place isn't hip or trendy, just really good food focusing on high quality meats all served in very generous portions at very reasonable prices.
Their prime rib is the best I've ever had and it beats any fine dinning restaurant out there. The slice is so large, it hangs off the plate. This was my father's favorite. His fresh changes daily and are always the biggest cuts that take over the plate. My mother always loved his miso butter fish which I've never seen such large cuts like that before.
For me, I enjoy his Sari Sari, which is a lechon and shrimp with vegetable Filipino soup. Again, it is a generous serving loaded with the lechon and shrimp that probably 2 could share. It comes with a side of rice as well, but you really don't need it with the size of the soup alone.
Ray, the owner is a character. He's a really nice guy, but does make sure that all his dinning guests are enjoying their meals. He's the type of guy to sit at your table and shoot the breeze with you for a little bit.
Parking it the biggest issue in the area. I really don't have any suggestions, but you will have to plan accordingly and will probably have to walk a bit to get their from where ever you park. However, the food is totally...
Read moreThought it would be a good place to eat at, so a friend of mine, and myself came here to eat before I picked up my rental. We were going to go with 4 people, but the other two had a change of plans last minute, making the request for a four-seat table awkward. We asked for a water, and were handed our cutlery, and that's when I realized I did not want to eat here ever. The knife had a large streak of grease on both sides almost as if it was dipped in something. I took my finger, and ran it down the side, and collected it on my finger. I showed both my finger, and the cutlery to my buddy, who recoiled a bit. The cups had black bits in the bottom, and were also dirty. Then we sat there awkwardly trying to get out. Then I looked up, and my friend had left faster than I'd noticed as people were coming in, and that gave the owner an opportunity to start insulting me for leaving while I waited for an opening. He was upset since I wasted his time, and I can understand that, but there is no excuse for a restaurants utensils to be covered in a thick grease, or going off on me with other customers around. If that's how your utensils look, how can you seriously expect me to trust the pots and pans you use to cook the food with? I should've took a picture, because I've never eaten at a restaurant with that much grime on something I'm expected...
