Chill little hole in the wall with an awesome Wed. karaoke crowd serving beer and liquor, plus a kitchen serving the traditional bar foods. So far everything I've tried has been pretty good. Nothing super spectacular, but no complaints either and I'm pretty picky with my food and quick to complain/inform when food is subpar.
Owner is always there serving and/or mingling depending on the pace of business. She fun, a bit sassy, but as I am a bit sarcastic and playfully ornery myself I tend to enjoy that personality type in others.
The crowd is very eclectic, ranging from "redneck" to "ghetto" and everything in between .. every race and age (21 and up that is) is usually just about equally represented and the groups are all friendly and all seem to mix well despite being so diverse.
Nothing cliquish about the atmosphere at all. I went by myself knowing no one to check out the karaoke and have only been a handful of times but the owner knows me by name and remembers my drink. Regulars were friendly and quickly made me feel comfortable.
Very casual, with a hint of local family drama to spectate, but nothing crazy. I thought it was kind of entertaining actually. Great little dive karaoke bar I think.
I will say I have only been on Wednesdays for karaoke so I cannot speak to the crowd or atmosphere on other nights... And I always seem to be too late, but Wed is steak night as well. It really looks good, so I definitely plan to try it if I can get there...
Read moreSammie J's is the heart and soul of the neighborhood. I’ve been coming here since 2008, and it’s been phenomenal every time. It’s one of the few dive bars around with a full kitchen—and the food is seriously good. Pro tip: don’t miss Wednesday Steak Nights, cooked by Sammie herself. Delicious, affordable, and always hits the spot.
The bartenders—Annie, Molly, Chase, and of course Sammie J—are top-notch. Friendly, fast, and they treat you like family. The vibe leans conservative, so just know that going in, but it’s a welcoming place for all. It’s truly a “where everybody knows your name” kind of spot.
They’ve got karaoke on certain nights with fun, talented locals, plus a solid jukebox when it's off. There’s also a back patio, pool tables, game machines, great drink specials, and a full menu with a ton of variety. Bonus: they do events and catering too.
If you're looking for good people, good drinks, great food, and a real local vibe—Sammie J’s is it. A true...
