Had hoped food was going to satisfy my craving for Mexican lent food. I ordered simple dishes. I am very much for cooking at home and enjoy it. So when I eat out I have expectations of food to be prepared properly. At this moment my son is at Md Anderson and I am unable to cook my own lent food because I am away from home. I ordered seafood soup they really MISSED BIG!!!Shrimp patties in red chile another BIG MISS and capirotada (a Mexican bread pudding). Soup I was able to take about 3 spoonfuls but that was all I could do because the flavor was of water with frozen seafood which was not even washed and peeled properly. That is ridiculous. The “soup” had a red salsa to try and cover the frozen seafood taste. It was really unedible and unsafe. Unto the shrimp patties. They were salty and hard. The shrimp powder is obviously from dry shrimp and shrimp is naturally salty NO NEED TO ADD SALT. The egg whites need to be very fluffy before adding yolks and powder this allows patties to be fluffy and soft. Easy enough but they MISSED BIG. Last the capirotada, bread pudding with Mexican fixings. Bread pudding that is supposed to have evaporated milk added to the piloncillo juice and mixed in with peanuts, pecans, raisins, coconut and Mexican sprinkles. Otherwise it’s bread with piloncillo juice and NOT capirotada. I really hope there is a Mexican restaurant that shows the city of Houston what real Mexican food should really be. So for I am 0 for 2. But I would not be able to suggest this place at all. To add insult to injury. The owner argues with me about food safety. He claims food safety is from freezer to pot 😱 I am sitting here at hospital in such disbelief. If I had the time to do more thank call food safety health department I really would but my priority is my son and nothing else. Just really be mindful before eating at this place. I do believe they have a lazy way of doing things and could jeopardize people’s health. I still cant believe he said from freezer to pot. I was 100% right. They leave all the freezer ice and just throw in pot. Hence the freezer burn after two hours and three spoonfuls. From freezer to pot or skillet he said. How about a wash??? Defrost safely so you can peel and wash. It’s crazy to me really crazy way...
Read moreI have been here before (just started working on the side of town), actually several times since 08.2018 but, it seems to get worse. I ordered two tacos. Nothing else folks given the history. 1) flour tortilla was toasted, broke when folded on both tacos. 2) the Pastor was burned. Tried picking out burnt pieces, but why should I do that, then when I did that before on any occasion, all that was left was a couple of pieces of meat remained. There wasn't much to start with on the taco. That was the other problem. I order avocado on both my tacos and neither had it, would have had to send back to kitchen, again this has happen on numerous visits 3) the shrimp taco had more tortilla and not enough shrimp, they used the very small cocktail shrimp. I only go here in a bind. I have had some many returns to the kitchen, bad food attempted to be served to me and a hit an miss service. I don't recommend the place. Only if you want in and out quick. Then again that may not happen. Not returning. Gave them the benefit of the doubt. To doubt them, was correct. Never leaving my "near northside" side of town for any other wanna be mexican restaurant, who may make an ill an attempt at authentic...
Read moreI love this place. This will only make sense to people from The Mo (mo city. Or Missouri city for you gringos), where there is a place called tornado taco that used to be my childhood go-to for great tacos. I always got the chorizo and egg burrito. It was always amazing. Then one day I went and it wasn’t the same. They started using different meat or something but it was way off and I never was able to find a taco place that made the chorizo and egg burritos just like I was used to. Very sad. And then I found Super La Mexicana! Their chorizo tastes JUST LIKE tornado taco used to, it’s amazing! I’ve been going here like 4 times a week since I found it. All the people are really nice and it just seems like a quality family run business. Also they make THEIR TORTILLAS FRESH, and you can taste it. Once you go somewhere that makes good tortillas from scratch, it’s hard to go anywhere that doesn’t. I could just eat their tortillas by themselves they are so good.
