BRANCHING OUT "Haz bien y no mires a quien"

Tostaderia Maderos USA (9401 Clay Rd @ Blalock)

Happy Cinco de Mayo, y'all!

Of course I had to go out and stuff my face with Mexican food. But it was also a chance to grow as a human being. Saturday night I had a group of folks at the bar at Blue Lagoon - Spring Branch and one of the fellas, Cody, hollers at me. Kyle! Why haven't you ever gone to Tostaderia Madero's?

I have gone there. Quite a bit actually. Why?

They have the absolute BEST Barbacoa! Why haven't you mentioned that?

Probably because I have only ever gone in there for breakfast tacos and have never had their Barbacoa. You really think it's the best?

I GUARANTEE it! And their red sauce. Their red sauce is the best too!

Cool! Monday is Cinco de Mayo, I'm gonna go get Mexican, duh-doy, so I guess I'm gonna go try Madero's barbacoa.

And true to my word, I did. I just finished my lunch there. I got the Tostada Especial with Barbacoa, a Chicharrón taco, a Choriqueso taco (Chorizo with melted cheese), and a Chicken Ranchero taco. I also got one of each of all four of their salsas. In the name of research of course.

I'm not normally a Tostada guy, but when in Rome...right? It's kinda their specialty and I always try the specialty. And in this case I'm really glad I did. First of all - HUGE! Number B - the presentation was great: bigazz Tostada, the Barbacoa sitting on a bed of delishes Salsa Verde, slathered with Crema, then topped with a generous portion of Onions and Cilantro, then another bigazz Tostada caps it off. And it's served with a MASSIVE pickled Jalapeno. I pulled the top off and took a big forkful of the Barbacoa. It really was fantastic - rich, flavorful, not too greasy. Just excellent. Was it the best I ever had? Keep reading. I wasn't planning on eating the whole thing before I turned my attention to the tacos. But I did. I also hit each bite with a different salsa. Was the Red Sauce the Best? Keep reading.

All three tacos were great, but the Chicharrón was really the stand out. So crispy and yet so moist and tender at the same time. Their seasoning on it was also really well executed.

So does Tostaderia Madero's have the best Barbacoa? Cody thinks so. And I absolutely understand why he does. It's frickin' fantastic. Would I say it's the best? Hmmm...probably not THE best but definitely near the very top. It's excellent and the lines and crowds are well-deserved.

And that red sauce? I actually thought it was the fourth best at Madero's. The orange habanero salsa was absolutely killer and hands down my favorite. The red was good but I definitely can't say I found it to be the best.

I do want to give Cody another shout out and a huge Thank You for his recommendation. I love for stuff like this, because I can always use some help getting up to my bullsh!t. You rock, amigo! And the rest of y'all need to go stop by Tostaderia Madero's and try their Barbacoa and let me and Cody know what you think.

[ETA: Do I have a favorite spot for Barbacoa? Yes. Am I gonna tell you? Not today. I'll tell y'all in a...

Everyone in here was eating caldo or menudo… I have to admit I Regret not getting one! I did enjoy my torta! Never had one with sour cream so I’m definitely adding that to the list of great ideas! I mean let’s be honest the thing was massive and delicious…( I feel like I can already hear ppl saying “that’s why she said”) lol but really good food and close to work so I know I’ll be swing by more often to enjoy real home cooked meals! Definitely will be trying their menudo and burritos! If you’re near by check them out, another little gem hidden in...

The food was fresh and authentic. This is the first restaurant where they actually made their green and red salsas spicy. We got a fajita plate with an agua fresca included. The beans served in a cup were awesome as well. The ladies working showed great customer service. The outside of the restaurant doesn't call too much attention and the inside atmosphere is ok. Lots of windows to look outside while eating and a good location for the passing workers on their...

Awesome chilaquiles!... I found this place on Google maps and decided to give it a try. Service was super friendly and the food was yummy. As a Mexican, I dare say this is one of the few places in town that serve good Mexican food. Purists might say it's not the real thing but considering the majority of so-called Mexican restaurants that in reality serve tex-mex food, I think this one does pretty good.
