Let me start off by saying that I'm a New Orleans native (Uptown To Be Exact)! Real reviews all hood! I have been residing in Houston ever since 2005 following Hurricane Katrina. I considered my self to be a gumbo connoisseur and being from New Orleans my taste buds and expectations are very high! I think I just found my #1 gumbo spot in H Town! What puts Wallie's in a different class from the other great spots I purchase gumbo from is their flavor/roux! They literally blew everyone else out of the water in my book! Along with my gumbo,I got a hot sausage on French 🥖 Po- Boy which too was also bussing! I also tried their new Hungry Man seafood boil which consist of boiled corn,a sausage link, potatoes,a huge turkey neck and of course my favorite the boiled shrimp 🦐🦐! The boiled seafood reminded me so much of Cajun Seafood on Broad Street in New Orleans! If you know you know when it comes to Cajun's! I also can't forget about their delicious lemonade! I got mine's mixed and couldn't have been happier with the ending result! I'm so glad I discovered this hidden gem of a food truck! Not to mention the customer service was also top tier! The employees were so cool especially the female cashier (I don't remember her name) she gave me some great recommendations for me being a first time customer! I will definitely be returning back to this great black...
Read moreI don't normally do food reviews, but the food and service was so good, I had to take a few minutes to do a review. I had seen this place on Instagram a few times and wondered if they were legit good or whether they simply had good social media. While passing through Houston, heading back to Cali, I made the trip from IAH to check this place out and I must say, it was absolutely worth it. I ordered the gumbo, fish platter and a half and half poboy (im greedy) and everything was PHENOMENAL! I stopped to write this because I'm passing through Houston again this week and was already plotting on stopping by! I also have to mention this. The service I recieved while ordering and waiting for my food was STELLAR! They had a cooler for their patrons filled with ice cold water and kept you abreast of your order. I ALSO pay attention to everything and I observed a homeless person get in line and we could tell she wasnt all there, but the lovely lady that was taking the order that day was so patient and kind to the lady and it was obvious they had just served this lady some food shortly before we had gotten there... some people and businesses pretend to care, but these folks really do. Houstonian's, please patronize this food truck... these folks truly deserved it... and it was worth the traffic to get there and the wait while the freshly...
Read moreWallie’s was suggested by my friend because she had seen videos on TikTok about the gumbo. I visited the food truck on 3/29 around 2pm. Busy but not crazy busy. I bought two orders of the gumbo at 15.00 a bowl and a fish poboy (I think 14.00). Total was about 45.00. I was expecting the portions of the gumbo to be a little larger based on the price. My thoughts on the gumbo: way too spicy. Also, I don’t like rice in my gumbo. I wish that I was asked that when ordering and not an assumption made by the staff that I did. I am not a fan of crab in my gumbo either. To me, the spiciness took away from the flavor of the gumbo. I wound up throwing the bowl of gumbo in the trash. I ate a few of the shrimp. That was it. My friend didn’t eat hers either. 30.00 down the drain. Lesson learned. As my mama always says, “a bought lesson is the best lesson.” Now, the fish poboy - recommend 100%!! It was so good! Fish cooked just right, the bread was so fresh and toasted just right. I will be going back to Wallie’s for the poboy. For sure. They can keep the gumbo, though. Will not be...
