Barley's Deerfield Diner — Restaurant in Howard

Decent burger. Oddly enough, it got better as I ate it. The bun was toasted on one side which was good. Tasty. Not the most friendly service. Not unfriendly either, just the usual. Someone probably worked too hard for too little pay. Enjoyed the chili. It was interesting as it was more like a thick spaghetti sauce and it had spaghetti noodles in it. Pretty good. My daughter had the kid's spaghetti. I tried it. The sauce was pretty good and different than my chili. It was thinner. The meatballs tasted like day old/leftovers, but could have been some store bought kind. This diner is a place that may take a few visits to figure out. And I am sure local folks have their favorites. Unfortunately, we were just passing through so this is the only opportunity they may have had with us. I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo and hashbrowns on the side (well done or crispy) The order took about 25 minutes to table. The burrito had okay flavor, and my hashbrowns might as well have been mashed potatoes, far from well done. The service was scary... My friend had ordered bacon on the side and the waitress forgot to bring it. After informing her that the side of bacon wasnt there, she walked away cussing under her breath. She also tossed our plates in front of us with no care and never asked if anything was going okay or tasting good. Overall the food was bland and lacked that fresh breakfast feel. The service was bad but the coffee was good. I've had better experiences at mainstream restaurants like dennys or perkins, and they're not even that...

I've been driving by this place for years and I had no idea why. I've stopped twice in the last week. 1st time I ordered soup and a sandwich to go. Friendly staff. I walk with a cane and she saw that I would have a hard time so she helped me to the door. EXCELLENT chicken and dumpling soup. I can honestly say it's the best I've ever had. I called yesterday about 5 minutes before closing asking if I could get some soup to go. I said I know you're closing soon, but I was just down the road. She said not a problem. I picked up a half gallon of the amazing chicken and dumpling soup and shared it with my grandkids who agreed it was terrific...even better then mine. If you haven't stopped here yet,...
