Let me begin with I LOVE the idea of this restaurant and want more than anything to see it succeed and thrive. I have been coming to Rubber Soul since we moved back here, in 2022, I believe. Not regulars, but periodically. I have always found something fun (I was a hug fan of the Devils on Horseback app) or fulfilling on the menu and I have loved the seasonal cocktails that they parade through, and the atmosphere was always enjoyable - except the odor that lingered when the brewery was on site..... Had friendly bartenders, fun music and so forth. Sadly, the last few times we have come have felt a huge shift in the climate. We tend to go on Friday or Saturday evenings, around 8-9pm. The one time we were quickly advised the kitchen was closing, but it seemed to be an hour from the establishment closing, so it was a bit confusing. The most recent time, the music was insanely loud and actually vulgar.... not something you typically hear at a place like that (I am not talking commonplace vulgarity but the really raw stuff I try and refrain from saying just for sheer decency in public settings). It was a bit of a disappointment because we did come to enjoy a variety of music and fun conversation. The staff all seemed to conjure around a guest who appeared to have influence on the music, but I am certainly speculating, which was inadvertently locked out of for a short stent, so left the bar silent for a brief period. The opportunity to play music was actually paused to external guests, for some reason (before the accidental lock out). It was very empty inside, which left me wondering on the type of crowds the place brings (smaller vs larger). But again, this was only 2 incidents and I cannot speak for the many other Friday and Saturday nights I have not gone - but it definitely felt like a huge shift in the entertainment and crowds from my past experiences (pre closure maybe?). The food was ok. Very pricey (4 small ribs = $17 app). I have not had great food experiences from here but would definitely recommend sticking to the typical bar foods, and perfecting those before trying to add too many other options. Again, these are all just my own personal opinion and I am sure there are really great things aside from these areas I bring up. They used to offer Trivia Tuesdays, I'm not sure if that's still around or not. I'll keep an eye, just in case. I will say again, I do enjoy their seasonal cocktails and the bar staff seem willing to create a drink, if not on the menu. We won't give up.....Not yet. Hopefully good, direct evening management on Friday and Saturdays can bring in some larger, fun crowds, again - with clean trendy...
Read moreThis brewery is beautiful inside and out. There was a cool fountain out front made of kegs. There was an in the wall fireplace inside. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. I cannot stress enough how cool the inside of this brewery is! Our waitress was Steph who was friendly and provided timely service.
Food:
Poutine Fries: the short rib on this was To Die For. It was melt in your mouth soft. The fries themselves were cooked well. There was cheese, but I do think it could have used more. All in all, would get again.
Wings: House Buffalo. The sauce was a generic Buffalo, nothing groundbreaking. The wings were HUGE! However, I do think they would have been crispier. Ya know, have that nice crunch sound.
Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli: these were severe with a butternut squash and ginger sauce that was pretty good. I do think the sauce could benefit from some thinly sliced garlic and smoked paprika though. My one complaint was that this dish was covered in olive oil- it sat on top of the sauce. This resulted in some bites that only tasted of olive oil, which is a shame because the sauce, while some improvements can be made, was pretty good. It came with pumpkin seeds which was a nice touch. I do think some roasted hazelnuts would be yummy.
Red Velvet Cake: this was good. Nothing that you go “omg I want this again and again”. The cake was slightly dry, but had a nice flavor. The cream cheese filing layers and top were very nice and the sop had a beautiful red crumble. I do think if this was warmed up and then the cream cheese icing was drizzled and then some white chocolate shavings would make it a lot better. Although, Rubber Soul doesn’t make their own dessert so this would be kind of hard to implement.
My husband tried three beers, all of which were good. His favorite was the Fresh Dew followed by the Rosina one. He cannot remember the third as it wasn’t anything special, but was good.
Overall, I’d give this place a try. There was so much on the menu that I wanted to try, but unfortunately my stomach isn’t that big. Haha. We will definitely be...

Food and Ambiance: When me and my partner walked into the facility it was a heart warming welcome with bright lights and delightful employees. The specials menu intrigued us initially, so we ordered the Korean ranch sesame wings and crab bisque as appetizers. The wings were nice and crispy with a very creamy and savory lingering taste, while the crab bisque was not what we were expecting, but at the same time felt like going into a new dimension full of smokiness and sweetness. Before we knew it, the bowl of wings disappeared and we longed for more. Upon getting the sesame seeds out of my teeth, the Truffle Dry Age Smash Burger was placed upon our sights. The Fontina oozed, the truffles TRUFFED, and the dry aged surprisingly made our spirits younger than when we walked in. Fighting over the last bite of the luscious seeded bun our final devour was topped off with yummy shoe string fries. Eee!!!
Beer and Cocktails: Warming up to the IPA, Frosted Citra, my partner felt his lips melting into a crisp and cold oblivion. While I delved into two black holes: the Pumpkin Porter and Christmas Lights Out Stout. I felt a balance of roastiness from the porter and sweetness from the stout. Perfect for the time of year, my partner ordered a marshmallow old fashioned looking for a warm hug. The toasted pillow lived up to the expectations with swirling candy melting into the fire engulfing pleaser. I too can attest to the beauty of this beast of a cocktail. I embarked upon a sweet treat myself, with the rosemary infused Spritzer, light, bitter and refreshing.
Merch: Bought a perfect pink T, for a gal like me.
Staff: But as Linkin Park states, without the hard work and spirits of the employees 🎶 “nothing even matters” 🎶 . Friendly, receiving and attentive, the staff made our experience possible. Thank you!!
