We're staying at the resort for a couple of weeks, and the wife wanted to eat here. Had I seen the reviews prior, more than likely I would have avoided eating here.
Staff: Definitely not enthusiastic or energetic. No one moves with a purpose. Average age is probably 25, and it shows. Put us on a wait list to be seated, and the restaurant was maybe 1/3 full. Strange. 2 hostesses, 4 or 5 wait staff and maybe 30 patrons.
Food: Wasn't overly excited with their limited menu choices, but anything more complicated more than likely wouldn't end well. Menu is basic. Burgers, chicken, pasta and fish. Couple of salad choices and a pizza menu. Can't really go wrong with a burger, so I went with that. It definitely wasn't an 18 dollar burger. Frozen patty, it might have been a half pound at some point in its life, but not served as such. Very greasy, not a juicy patty. Grease from the griddle it was cooked on. Pretty flavorless. Typical Frozen patty. Fries were unremarkable.
Wife had the farafalle pasta dish with what appeared to be an attempt at Alfredo and chicken. The Alfredo was separating prior to being served, because there was wayyyy too much fat, and definitely a poorly crafted roux. Pasta looked dry and not appetizing. Chicken appeared to be the "grilled " chicken breast you can find in a plastic bag in the deli section. Definitely not a dish a chef would serve and be proud of .
Impression: From reading comments and management responses, I could safely say that management is fairly clueless about restaurant operations and food preparation. Seems to be canned responses from someone with an HR background. I would bet that their cook (definitely not a trained chef) runs the show, because anyone with a food service background would retrain them in the preparation of something as simple as pasta and Alfredo. Frozen foods and prepackaged foods are twice as expensive as fresh food and never taste as good.
Recommendation: Save your money. If you want mediocre at best you'll spend 1/2 as much at a franchise...
Read moreWorst dinner for our friend's birthday.
We book a night at Sand Hollow Resort, which is really beautiful place to stay and like I said, it was our friend birthday so we decided to try the food there.
We waited 15 minutes to get someone with us to take our order. It's not that bad...
We ordered the wings, coconut shrimp, farfalle pasta and NY strip. We also ordered cocktails.
The drinks came fast, but my old fashioned was off. Looked like a whiskey on the rocks and didn't have the flavour it is supposed to have. Waste of money. The other cocktails were ok, my friend and wife said.
Minutes later food showed up, good timing, BUT EVERYTHING, EXCEPT FOR THE COCONUT SHRIMP, WERE AWFUL.
First, the wings were supposed to be hot honey glazed with a side of ranch, they tasted like buffalo and the side was blue cheese and the carrots in the plate were shredded, WHO SERVES THE CARROTS LIKE THAT? ARE YOU GONNA PICK UP SHRED BY SHRED TO DIP IN THE SAUCE BESIDE THEY WERE REALLY SMALL?
Second, the farfalle pasta, bread was ok (best part of the dish being honest) and the flavour of the pasta was off, missing salt, everything.
Third, the NY strip, WAS THAT STEAK EVEN A NY STRIP CUT? Once the server put it on the table, I saw it and clearly wasn't a NY strip cut. Looked like a sirloin tip and it wasn't even 10oz, looked like 8oz. The steak needed flavour as well, like salt and pepper, didn't taste good. I didn't complain with our server because I didn't wanna embarrass her since there was a 10+ top table next to us.
Then the server checked on us, two times and at the second time she got ready the check, asking if we are ready for it and we said yes.
Leaving the place, passing by some tables, there was a party of 4 and two guys ordered the NY strip and those looked like the right cut, that got me insane... Like that lady being a server cannot clearly see what is she bringing to us?
NEVER GOING BACK TO THAT...
Read moreThis was the worst dining experience my family has ever had.
We showed up for a late lunch with plenty of available tables. When we asked to be seated outside, we were told a party of seven couldn’t be accommodated for that, only to see multiple larger parties sat outside thereafter!
After ordering our food, our waitress came back a couple of times to refill waters, then she worked behind the bar and was completely unavailable. When an hour had passed with no food, we finally waved over a man whom appeared to be a manager. We asked him for an update and he told us he “had to finish wiping a table and then would check.” Ten minutes later, he lets us know most food is ready and would be out shortly.
Another ten minutes goes by (so an hour and twenty minutes!!) and our food gets delivered.
To say it was a disappointment is an understatement.
Two of us ordered nachos that were sat under their heat lamp/light for far too long. You couldn’t pick up a chip without everything falling off, plus the beans looked completely unappetizing. I didn’t even eat two.
My dad lets the waitress know he won’t be eating his meal. She doesn’t apologize ONCE, ever, and takes his plate away with an “OK”. Then she comes back with checks and he lets her know he won’t pay for it. Tbh we all should have done that. The burger was cold, fries cold, kids meal cold. Only my husband’s pasta was warm.
A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!!!
We will NEVER EVER come back, and we visit Sand Hallow often, and we will warn all our family and friends about this place. It would have taken ONE sincere apology, but none given and they clearly didn’t appreciate...
