Fenceline Brewery is off the beaten path. Somewhere south of Ames IA off of exit 102 on 35 is Huxley. Not from around "these here parts" use your navigation app; You won't regret it. Ever seen Children of the Corn? It's not like that and the people are genuinely midwest nice. A working-class town. The brewery is on main street

Fenceline is owned by a husband and wife team. They shared with me how they came up with the name and unfortunately I will not do justice to a beautifully told story: The name inspired by the idea that the fenceline is 'where you meet your neighbor. Also a fence line is meant to inspire you to explore beyond your boundaries and on your return inspire your creativity'

I tried 7 different brews and they were all interesting. Clean, fresh and with each sip I felt like I was out in the country breathing fresh air and enjoying nature. Hat tip to the brewmaster well done 👏

FOOD: The menu is not expAnsive. What they do offer is fresh, creative, hearty and delicious and good size portions. Light eaters may want to share.

Decor: Clean, bright, interesting. Bar top contains barley + roasted barley added interest.

This is a MUST STOP on your brewery tour. I will go...

This place is a real gem! We took the short drive from Des Moines to Huxley to check out Fenceline Beer Lab. We wanted to find a place which brews good beer and serves good food and this place was just what we were looking for. We shared the Brussels sprouts and two of the spent grain flatbreads. All were absolutely amazing! I tried three different styles of beer, Pelican (a ginger-peach saison), Honey Truncheon (a dark Belgian strong ale with cherry) and Whale,Whale,Whale (and American pale ale). All three were amazingly soft and smooth on the palate while being full flavored and spot-on for the style. The place was very clean and well lit and the service was very friendly and attentive. If you are looking for a dark and dingy place to drink yourself into oblivion this is not the place for you. If, however, you wish to enjoy great food and amazing beer in a cheerful and friendly environment, Fenceline is...

I was looking around Google maps when this spot hit my radar. I’d never heard of it but saw the reviews were good, so we decided to take the trip from Des Moines to check it out. I’m so glad we did!

He got the crab cake burger with fries and both dipping sauces. I got the half Ruben-Rachel/ Brussels combo. Both were delicious. Unexpectedly delicious. This place goes hard and is absolutely worth the drive from downtown.

We tried 5 beers (all great) but the standout was the Comfy Slippers hazy IPA. We took some of that to go. Another winner was the Ballard Blend which is just summery perfection.

TLDR: Beer was aces, food was aces, service was aces. Patio is dog friendly. We...

Exceptional food with a rotating menu, their own incredible beer, ciders, and seltzer's on tap with seasonal options always coming online. The brussels are a must, each visit. I would definitely consider the food a fusion experience, with some classics mixed in, giving everyone something to enjoy. The last visit my wife had Chilaquiles, which I would describe as a Huevos Rancheros mixed with nacho, she let me have some and I will be ordering that next time for sure! My son had the Jam On Flatbread, and I had the Crabrangoon Flatbread, both were incredible! If you're looking for a new place to try check them out.
