Washington Park Pool is fabulous and horrible at the same time. The facility is extremely poorly run and managed. In this instance Washington Park would be better run by a private entity.
First of all, look at the schedule. This place is run like a prison. The staff and lifeguards are rude and unprofessional. It’s difficult to enjoy the facility because of the people who work there.
Pools are meant to be enjoyed by everyone but they segregate access times based on gender and lifestyle limiting you to only swim for an hour a day. I doubt that other pools are run like this. Correct me if I am wrong.
I’m extremly disappointed they eliminated lap swimming on Sat. and Sun.
I showed up to lap swim last Saturday, and there were 10 lifeguards on duty and when I entered 4 guards asked me “ can I help you” like I was trespassing. I ignored them but it was very unprofessional to approach me that way.
The water quality is often cloudy. No where are water test results publicly posted and patrons should have the right to know the results after each test. Lifeguards should know what test results are as well after each testing.
It’s wonderful to have access to an outdoor 50 meter pool on the southside. It would be even better if the pool was run by people who had safety PLUS customer service as a top priority.
This facility is supported by taxpayers. I pay an additional $40 to be able to lapswim. Pool patrons should be treated like customers not inmates. After all we pay your salaries.
Its time to start a Friends Group so that we can unite our voices and have more of a say about how the pool is managed.
I love the pool and have a vested interest in seeing the service level improved...
Read moreI was at the Refectory Room for a baby shower. The location is very nice for a function of almost any type. The maintenance men were present and extremely helpful for the several hours I was present. From my understanding, the rental of the room is done by old school methods. You must go in person! LOL. Apparently this location is not electronically savvy. Not sure whether that's a good or bad thing. It's nice to make some transactions face to face, but if time is of the essence, electronic transactions can be life savers. The facility provided tables and chairs and a kitchen area for your own supplied goods, foods, and beverages. Decorations are your responsibility. Not sure what guidelines there are regarding decorations, as the event I attended was decorated extremely nice with a personal touch. When the event was wrapping up the maintenance workers were johnny on the spot in breaking down the tables and chairs and putting them away expediently. There is available parking. I did not give this 5 stars because the parking lot could have been much cleaner than it was. Over all I would consider this location...
Read moreThey need to change the swim schedule- having parent/child swim from 12:45 until 3:30pm on weekends overlaps with the most common nap times for toddlers, including mine. So I'm not even able to use the pool during the weekend AND it closes earlier at 4:45pm! Some other city pools are open until 7pm. I think the city should prioritize Washington Park pool being open longer because it has an awesome water slide and the best shallow play area for little kids.
In summary, the pool is awesome but the schedule is...
