We have eaten at Trudy’s a few times in the past and it has been fine. This time, was a compete 180! My wife ordered the Huckleberry Salmon, and at $24, she was looking forward to a great dinner. I ordered the Wildcat, which is just a Bacon-Cheeseburger, so my expectations weren’t too high. Our food came to the table and seemed fine, but upon further inspection, the salmon was way overdone and there was no huckleberry at all. I understand these things happen so we turned around trying to get the attention of our server who was chatting it up another server in front of the kitchen. That’s when I noticed one of the cooks - he had a long bushy beard, with no hairnet - a bit disturbing. I felt badly as my burger was tasty, but I wanted to eat dinner with my wife, who was waiting patiently for our server to ‘check in’ with us so we can maybe get her order corrected. I finally waved down another server who apologized and went to get our server who brought us a side of something that resembled Huckleberry salad dressing (it was ice cold) and expected us to dump it on the overcooked piece of fish. Oh, and when she dropped this at our table, I removed a super long hair from my mouth, as it was in the burger!! By this time, we were done with Trudy’s. We waited another few minutes for our bill, which never came, so I went up to the counter to pay. It was then that I told the server this was a terrible experience (and I KNOW she saw me remove the hair from my mouth!). Her only response was, I am so sorry, that will be $40.38. That’s when I knew we will never eat at Trudy’s ever again. I mean, they didn’t even try to...
Read moreBusy on Saturday but great food and warm atmosphere!
We got a salad, French dip, 2 burgers and a kid’s meal + desserts. Burgers were ok, nothing great and very well done. I’m retrospect, our waitress should have asked how we wanted them done, but we didn’t think to say not dry and crispy. 😂 They we’re so busy and we were so hungry we just ate them slathered with extra ketchup.
The French dip was fantastic. Hot, tender, and a delicious homemade roll for the bread. Definitely worth getting again. Kid’s meal was generously sized with 8 nuggets and fries in a basket. Salad was fine and enjoyed.
Desserts were amazing. Huckleberry cheesecake was great as were the berry pies. We especially liked the peach blackberry! Generous slices for $7-8 each. The cream pies looked amazing in the cabinet and “sky high” with piled cream. Never seen a pie that tall before!
Loved the warm feel to the Christmas decorations they had up. I recommend you try to not sit in front of the door if there’s an option because with people opening it all the time, it can get chilly. Tables and chairs are rather worn with some ripped seating and backs, but we didn’t mind too much after our cold day outside.
Service was good but rushed as our lady was buzzing all over. We did get refills on hot coffee so we were happy. 😁
We’d definitely stop back when in town again and recommend it without hesitation. It’s good value and quality for the prices charged, unlike a lot of restaurants in the Boise area that leave us feeling disappointed for having paid what we did for the quality of...
Read moreI attended a wedding where Trudy’s Kitchen catered. Every single dish they provided was delicious! The Coleslaw was crisp, sweet and tangy. The potato salad melted in your mouth. The Mac&Cheese was thick and full of flavor. The pulled pork was juicy and savory. The star of the meal was the smoked Brisket. They smoked the Brisket for 18 hours, it literally melted in your mouth, filling your soul with its rich smokey flavor. I get Brisket at every BBQ place I go to, it is what I use as my metric for how good they are, and Trudy’s Kitchen makes the best Brisket in the state of ID (that I have had so far). Not only was all of their food amazing, but their homemade BBQ Sauces are worth an elaborate heist to steal their secret recipes (get the huckleberry bbq sauce).
The morning after the wedding we headed into town and had breakfast at Trudy’s Kitchen. It was absolutely packed but there seemed to always be one table open just the right size for the group coming in the door. They were serving off of their breakfast menu. All of their prices were very reasonable, and it was solid breakfast food. Nothing was too special, but everything was cooked properly to order. Service was a bit slow, but they were packed so I understand. They also only refilled my coffee one time and I definitely needed more than that after a night at a wedding. I will definitely return anytime I have a reason to be in Idaho City. In fact, I will Trudy’s Kitchen is a great reason to go...
