VERDICT: Best breakfast joint in Boise, bar none regarding food quality. They nail the classics and positively innovate for new hits. (Caveat: parties should be 2-4 people for best results.) FOOD: I've eaten a large swath of the menu and can tell you, their cooks are top-notch. Their technique on their eggs is perfect everytime, with no crisp fringe or undercooked spots. The sausage (andouille) is butterflied and properly browned on the surface while remaining juicy. Their potatoes (Peps) balance crisp surface with consistently soft interior and delicately seasoned so as not to blow out other flavors of the crisped cheddar or green or red pepper fried with the potatoes. They carry the crisp without the excess grease. As for the coffee, they serve Dawson Taylor's Backcountry Blend, a medium-light roast blend that blooms harmoniously with the savory of the meal. P.S. The pancakes are not a peripheral here, but are quite enjoyable in their own right. They are light, sweet, and compliment a savory breakfast here. SERVICE: Always the best here. The fact that they keep one server for food and the other for seating and drinks makes for never an empty glass. I will say, it's a bit slower than some places for receiving your food (think 20-30 min to receive your order) but coffee or mimosa (or bellini) to punctuate conversation makes the time waited quite a pleasant experience. (Speaking of, these drinks are all quite delicious and well worth it). ATMOSPHERE: The atmosphere carries the vibe of a bustling breakfast joint, but in a good way. It is alive with energy that doesn't undercut the intimacy of the place. With that said, this place is best for groups 2-4 people and no more unless you're willing to wait. (Popular times such as brunch will result in a wait of ~45 min for 2 persons, based on my dozen or so visits.) REVIEW BELOW 4 YEARS OLD, BUT DIFFERENT DISHES For all my breakfast cravings, Goldy's remains my fix. From their stellar Eggs Blackstone (eggs Benedict on ham, tomato, fried egg and English muffin) to their delectable andouille sausage, there's not a dish that will disappoint. Their real superiority to other places shines in their regular pot coffee here. It's Dawson Taylor's Backcountry Blend, a premium blend of light and medium beans roasted right here in Boise for optimum freshness. Just know you may have to wait (depending on time of day, 20 min or so for party of 2) and parties of greater than 4 will have quite the wait time (probably 40 or more). Goldy's is always worth the wait, though.

We took advice from our hotel staff for breakfast at Goldy’s and they were spot on. First of all, the wait system is brilliant! Instead of queuing up out in the cold or scrunching in together, they have a Corner Shop dedicated to grab and go and heat and eat with diner-style seating inside a warm and inviting space. Coffee and espresso drinks, pastries, breakfast treats and GIANT mimosas that, if you’re not finished and your table is ready, will be hand-delivered to your seat! As for their menu, so many interesting items to choose! We sat at the counter and watched their cooks prepare deliciously eye-appealing plates of breakfast splendor. And, all done with such a chill vibe! I’ve never seen a short order/made-to-order kitchen line work so seamlessly! Kudos to whoever designed that system! So, we chose to create our own combination breakfasts from the EXTENSIVE lists of meats, potatoes breads and egg styles. We chose wisely. Everything tasted clean and fresh and was seasoned properly and not greasy. Which is an art in a busy breakfast kitchen. Everyone working today had a smile and seemed to enjoy being there. They were also well versed on every item on their menu. The gentleman who greeted us and took our information for the wait, stopped by at the end of our meal and thanked us for our business. Dining here will start your day off right and put a smile on your face and in your belly. (I added photos from Goldy’s Corner as I feel it was part of our dining experience this morning)

WOW! Best breakfast we've ever eaten! My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, Eggs, Hash browns and Sourdough Toast. His Chicken Fried Steak was cooked perfectly! He likes his eggs over easy and they were on point. The hash browns had just the right crispiness. The Sourdough Toast paired with the creamy whipped butter was terrific. He tipped it off with a Chi Tea that was just as yummy...all this in his words. I ordered the Two Egg Breakfast with Bacon Cheesy Grits and Sourdough French Toast... I wasn't expecting the what I got. It was simply the best I've ever had. The over easy eggs were cooked with precision as well as the Bacon...the perfect crisp! If I didn't know any better, I'd think the chef was from the South. Those Cheesy Grits were something I've never tasted before. I think I'll have dreams of them...so unbelievably mouth watering! My French toast had the ideal crunch around the edges as well and if course the whipped butter and maple syrup set it into desert mode! My hot Chocolate was the icing on the cake to say the least! We are excited to try their other menu items in the future. I do have to say we were also impressed with the staff and their ability to work with one another like a well oiled machine. Thank you for the best breakfast for lunch today! Definitely will be seeing more of us.

Cons: There is a wait to get a table, it takes a while for the food to arrive. Now, there's a reason I listed the cons first, and that's so you forget about them and realize that this place is worth the wait. I typically don't eat til I'm full, I like to eat when I'm hungry enough to keep me fueled and remove the feelings of hunger. Maybe once a month I eat til "full", this place had me eating til I was stuffed!! The food is clearly made from scratch, it's not your processed, frozen food that's been heated up and given a raised price tag, instead you've got a real, home cooked style breakfast that is well worth the wait and reminds you of your younger days of asking mom or grandma if the food was ready yet and ending with the quiet satisfaction of a well fed morning! Now for the staff, they are extremely friendly, they make sure your water stays full, you have all you need, the food is good and then they leave you to enjoy your meal! Our server was Brett and he deserves a full 5 stars all on his own! The portion sizes were large enough to satisfy everyone in our party and the price was very reasonable! Couldn't recommend this place more. If you only eat once in Boise, make it here!

This was my first time going here, but with people who had been here previously and had a great experience. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't as good as theirs. Our server was too busy trying to be funny/sarcastic at every question or statement, to get the order right. Two of our three orders were correct, but my omelette had mushrooms instead of tomatoes and the toast wasn't even brought to the table. When we asked about the toast, there was no apology, the server just said well do you still want it? Our server and another employee did make sure that we had enough coffee at all times as well. As for the food, the omelette was cooked well and tasted good even though the order was wrong (we had already waited an hour to be seated and didn't have time to wait for the order to be changed). The red potatoes were undercooked as well. Side note, this restaurant is very dark and small, and a bit noisy. Wouldn't recommend going here with groups over 4. Incredibly disappointed by the service and don't plan on returning. I would recommend people go to Moon's instead (or Bacon, or another place). The waits there might be long, but you have a better chance at good service.

Goldy's Breakfast Bistro - Celebrating 20 Years in downtown Boise! Long wait times before getting seated, long wait times for food in larger parties, but all worth the wait! The restaurant has very limited seating. Put your name on the waitlist, and they will call you when your table is ready. No Reservations. Everything on the menu looks great! I was torn between their famous Andalusian eggs which was acclaimed by Bon Appetit Magazine in 2002 or their famous breakfast burrito. I asked the waitress her recommendation and she told me to go for the burrito. It was huge! I only ate half and took the rest with me for another meal. It came in a soft spinach tortilla with hearty, fresh ingredients including eggs, cheese, poratoes, and I chose sausage as the meat. It was served with sour cream and salsa. One of my friends got the stack of chocolate pancakes. They looked extremely tasty but was a lot of food! Another friend ordered the "make your own breakfast" option. She chose Goldy's famous potatoes, bacon, with one slice of french toast. I first tried this restaurant in 2011 and have great memories from that experience. It's still a must-try when you're in the area!
