Marcello's Pizza — Restaurant in Ina

I've been searching for pizza worth paying for in Southern Illinois for about 5 years. I found it in Marcello's. The ingredients are fresh and it shows. Nothing like your chain pizzas. The cheese is fresh, the sauce is made in house and the oven is not your typical pizza oven. I even got a tour of the kitchen which was incredibly clean. The crust has a great crunch to it. The sauce is savory and the pepperoni and sausage were perfect. It's not a chain where they measure each topping. So each bite and slice are different. You can tell that the man cares about making pizza. I will definitely be going back...

It was so nice to sit and talk to Marcello and his son,, Smart little fella. In some ways reminds me of myself at his age. Talking about his grandfather, Marcello's father who started this delicacy in Herrin called Girolamo's pizzeria Who is greatly missed. It warms my soul to know the tradition is being carried on. It's a small pizza shop and the hours are for dinner only. The owner uses his family recipe and it shows! We had a pizza there and the picture is of one we took to go.
