My wife and I have always loved our visits to Louisiana. For us, one of the biggest draws has been the food. The mix of Southern, French, Country, Seafood, and Cajun makes for a wonderful mix of flavors that are not seen anywhere else in America. To find a restaurant here in La Porte that brings these authentic tastes to the table made us very happy. The personal touch began before we even arrived. I had called and left a message to reserve a table for dinner. The gentleman that returned my call (Chef John, perhaps) brought a bit of humor to the call, saying, in part, that they would love to hold a table for "Captain America"! Now, that's funny. We arrived to a hostess who recognized the name when we gave it, but I'm not quite sure she got the reference to the famous movie star who still hasn't paid me for the use of my name! I DID have it first. LOL She was able to seat us at a table of our choice and returned throughout the evening to take dishes and see that our every need was fulfilled. Our server, who introduced himself as Christopher, was friendly and attentive and of course had an easy to remember name. 😉 He turned out to have a great sense of humor, so we all had a few laughs together. It turns out that he was also our bartender and had a hand in the making of some of the menu items. We got to learn a bit about him. He attested to being a lead singer and drummer in a garage band! A big personality perfect for a Louisiana themed place. The music chosen for the restaurant was relaxing, unobtrusive, and set a wonderful ambiance for the night. When you speak to the personality of the Bistro, one MUST speak about Executive Chef John Moultree (sp?). He is also the owner and has worked under Paul Prudhomme. The restaurant and menu reflect him perfectly, it seems. He visited us at our table and we found some commonalities in our backgrounds. Now, let's talk food for a bit. We began with their Louisiana Crabcake. It had that perfect crunch on the outside, with a warm crab filling. The remoulade that was served was absolutely among the best we have ever tasted, leaving that perfect, lingering heat on our tongues. Of course, there are so many other starters that we wish to try and will do so at another time. When it came to our entrees, my eye had noticed the Lobster and Shrimp D'Orleans, but when I mentioned it to my bride, she admitted to wanting that same dish, so I ordered the Shrimp Creole. Both are tomato based and somewhat similar dishes. When Christopher had suggested the Crawfish Étouffée, my wife told him that I make the best version she's ever tasted and did not wish to be disappointed! (I won't disagree) While the Creole dish was a bit sweeter than I expected, and a bit less spicy than I was used to, it was very good. My wife's D'Orleans was awesome. The blend of flavors was perfection. Though visually similar dishes, the addition of lobster to the shrimp in the D'Orleans added a divine richness to the dish. Less sweet and less spicy, it was the dish I liked better of the two. We both agreed that a bit more rice would have been nice, as we ran out of that important accompaniment while eating our dinners. The portions were generous and it was difficult, for me, to finish the entire bowl (but I did) and I'm happy to say that about half of my wife's dinner came home with us. I look forward to the leftovers. We were going to order the Bread Pudding for desert, but instead opted for the Peach Cobbler, to go, after Christopher told us he made it. We will get to it later today and I will add a comment on it after we do. We moved back north about a year and a half ago and tried to get to this restaurant on a few different occasions, but things always seemed to get in the way. Yesterday we finally made it. We will be back and as Justin Wilson used to say we "Garronntee" it will be sooner rather than later. Thanks for...

From the moment we arrived at Bistro on the Greens, we were captivated by the stunning views surrounding the restaurant. Nestled beside a peaceful golf course, the setting offered a tranquil backdrop that instantly set the tone for a relaxing evening.
Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed and promptly seated by the attentive staff. The interior was equally impressive—adorned with striking artwork that added depth and character to the ambiance. It felt like dining in a gallery with a soul.
Our waitress, Sarah, elevated the experience with her exceptional service. She was not only friendly and professional but also impressively knowledgeable about the menu and the restaurant’s offerings. Her recommendations were spot-on and made us feel truly cared for. Might I add the drinks were amazing as well. The bartender- Danny soulful mixes were a great addition to the ambiance!
Our visit to Bistro on the Greens was elevated by an unexpected and delightful encounter with the restaurateur himself, Chef John Moultrie. It’s rare to meet the owner during a dining experience, and John’s warm, eloquent presence made us feel like honored guests in his home.
He graciously introduced himself and shared the inspiring story behind the restaurant’s inception, giving us insight into the heart and soul of the establishment. His passion for Southern cuisine, jazz, and community was evident in every word. John also extended a personal invitation to return for one of their live music evenings—a gesture that made us feel truly welcomed and valued.
Throughout our visit, John remained attentive and accommodating, ensuring our experience was nothing short of exceptional. His hospitality, paired with the restaurant’s serene golf course views, vibrant artwork, and outstanding service from staff like Sarah, created a dining experience that felt both intimate and unforgettable.
Whether you're drawn by the serene surroundings, the artistic atmosphere, or the flavorful Creole dishes, Bistro on the Greens delivers a dining experience that’s both refined and heartfelt.
Thank you for the exceptional hospitality. I will definitely add your restaurant to my list of favorites!

Read moreI wanted to share my amazing experience at the Bistro On The Greens! When you arrive at this surprisingly hidden treasure on the Legacy Golf Course in Laporte, Indiana, you are in for adventure. Who would have thought that this establishment in the middle of a golf course would heighten your palates for some fine Southern cuisine. I walked in as I had a reservation and the gracious hostess ushered me to my seat. The atmosphere was so warm and inviting I felt welcomed. It was beautifully decorated in earth tones with art from the great past artists such as Billie Holliday and Etta James and others! Did I mentioned it was my first time and let me tell you..it was one of my best experiences at a restaurant. I had the peach tea and the crab cake and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. The crab cakes were seasoned to perfection and the fried green tomatoes reminded me of being in Mississippi but with an elegant presentation. I was also intrigued with the other patrons who were locals who engaged in friendly conversation. I was pleasantly surprised to find the owner himself come to my table and have a meaningful conversation with me. He not only took the time to get to know who I was but he also took orders and took plates away. He was working yall! I asked him what his favorite thing on the menu, he said any of the Southern Classics. So I was compelled to order The Smothered Louisiana Chicken with wild rice and asparagus! The chicken was so tender and with the tangy sauce with the rice and the asparagus to complement it, delicious! For dessert, I tried the peach cobbler with ice cream. Again, you felt that someone in the kitchen wanted you to feel love! My experience came to an end as I said my goodbyes to the wonderful people who I had engaged in conversations for 2 hours. I shook the owner hands but ran back in to get a picture(after I asked permission)so that I can prove to others that I wasn't dreaming! Thank you again John for opening up your establishment and your hospitality to individuals and given them a great experience with excellent food, in my opinion the prices were very reasonable, breathtaking views.. but the biggest take away is that You Will...
