Having been a regular of this place for 3 years, I think it's time I finally left a review for THE place for all my coffee (and often my lunch) needs! When I moved to the area the first thing I looked for was a locally owned coffee house, and this place fit the bill. I'm now here several times a week.
This place is a great locally run business with awesome owners and staff. They're very positive people and I get a comfy vibe when I'm there, and I always get to chat with the staff and many other regulars that come in.
If you're not a coffee aficionado, let them know and they will help you find something you'll enjoy! (Or tea! Or a smoothie!)
They have amazing doughnuts (some are vegan, but you'd never know it) on the weekends from another Indy-local business, as well as their own breakfast pastries, and breakfast/lunch sandwiches (soups in the fall on Fridays!) They have carnivore or vegetarian options. I love their grilled cheese and always get extra cheese. Just do it. You'll thank me.
Local art adorns the walls and is rotated on occasion, and nearly all of it is for sale. I own several pieces I've seen there!
They roast locally, and their coffee is often used in several breweries around town in special coffee-themed beer, showing that local businesses are fans of theirs, as well!
I want to address one last thing: Another review complains about not being able to bring in outside food and drink...but if you know how restaurants work, well, that's how they all work. I hate that anyone would give a negative review because they don't understand how businesses work, but you know, the internet. Anyway. Money spent here is worth...
Read moreReview directly for SB: I love this place. I've been coming in off and on for years now. They've been nothing but wonderful not only for their customers, but for their community, as well. They've always gone above and beyond what you'd expect from a coffee shop. Now, let's address the elephant in the room. Masks... I work for a small business - two owners and three hourly employees (including myself). We have to enforce the mask mandate, as well. Personally, I don't care for wearing masks. However, my personal opinions on masks mean dck when I'm told by my bosses AND the state that in order to have customers in the store, they need to have masks on. I know of small business owners in Central Indiana that have been cited and have had to go to court because they were caught allowing someone in their business without a mask on. Not only is that time consuming, but it could get rather costly. As a small business, your time is your money AND you could get slapped with a fine from the state, too. So, to all of you self-righteous indignant individuals that have nothing better to do with your time than complain about having to wear a mask for 30 seconds while you grab a cup of coffee: get over yourselves. This isn't about you. They do have a curbside option or, better yet...make your coffee at home. With how hard this year has been on small businesses, it blows my fcking mind that people will complain about a small business doing everything they can to even remotely stay open. Those complainers have obviously never owned their own business or had the pleasure of of working for a small business struggling to...
Read moreStrange Brew is truly one of my favorite places in the world! The owners have curated an amazing culture of customer care, quality coffee, and positive interactions with their neighbors. I personally have loved being able to sit for hours, drinking coffee, having conversation and/or reading books.
It's a destination that if I have friends in from out of town, I'll make sure to drop by if we're going to be within 15 miles of the place.
Additionally, during COVID, I've appreciated that they have made accomodations for folks who have medical issues or a general...hesitancy...to wear masks by offering curbside service and that they've created a mask positive interaction with the public.
Also. The star comes on when you turn on the bathroom light. It's, like, the greatest coffee house innovation ever. Don't know what I'm talking about? Well, you should swing by, drink coffee and watch the star.
Also, bonus? ...
