Before I begin my review, I would like to state that I have worked in the hospitality industry for over 25 years. I have dined at many outstanding restaurants over the years and not only understand good service but also the key components of service that separates average restaurants and outstanding restaurants. We made a reservation for Monday, 1/20/2025. With the bitter cold outside the restaurant was slow with about six tables dining. The drive up to the restaurant was astonishing and the mansion was immaculate. The ambience was some of the best I have ever seen. As we got to our table I noticed the table arrangement was very boring and didn’t match the ambience of the surroundings. We sat down and the server greeted us, got our drinks, and dinner orders as expected. Our guest finished their drinks, but the server never came back and asked if they wanted another drink. Again, there were only 5 to 6 tables in the establishment at this time. Our entrees came out in a timely manner as expected. I ordered the Filet (rare), my wife ordered the Filet (medium rare), and my daughter ordered the Filet (medium). I cut into my steak, and it was definitely overcooked. All 3 Filets came out medium. Our server never once came back to check on how we are doing or if everything was prepared to our liking. At their price point, the server needs to be more attentive to the needs of the guest. The food is bland, the quality of the steak is not prime grade, and the steak was overcooked. I have worked in high-end steakhouses and if you have a high-grade beef that is seasoned and prepared correctly, you don’t need to send out sauce to go with the steak. Overall, the place has lots of potential but unfortunately is lacking in key areas to make it great. Ambience: ...
Read moreAmazing space to spend time eating a quasi-refined meal with helpful professional staff. Cuisine is what you might expect for very traditional fare.
We came in for brunch- our server (Jason) was fantastic, very polite and professional. We tried an omelet, scramble with creme fraiche, avocado toast with a side of truffle parm fries.
Food was good, not necessarily the most amazing I've ever had, but enjoyable. We agreed the avocado toast was the best on the table.
We got to try the banana split, it was fantastic. Looked amazing and tasted great, almost like creme brulee.
I ordered a cappuccino and was surprised it came out with no foam or seemingly frothed milk...this was the major downside to the meal, a small one compared to all that was good. It was only a cappuccino in the sense of espresso and warmed milk...not what most people would expect. Coffee was so-so, don't get your hopes up if you are a major coffee fan, not worth the cost.
The seats themselves for dining are very comfortable- as you would hope with such a place.
Background music was a little annoying, some songs were their own kind of terrible.
The grounds and rooms are enjoyable to tour, interesting and its own kind of special place to visit for a meal or cocktails. I eventually got bored with the endless sea of beige and neutral tones that make...
Read moreImpeccable service in a truly stunning atmosphere. Jay is such a warm, lovely person. He made us feel like we were his only guests, as did the front of house host and everyone who came to our table. We never felt rushed and everything served was perfectly timed. I enjoyed a cappuccino, the absolutely delicious lobster roll, and had a bite of my friend's very generous portion of avocado toast.
Of course I also indulged in a classic brunch Mimosa - I couldn't imagine not having bubbly in such a beautiful place! I was mesmerized by the grand lighting in front of me, and the terrace overlooking the lake. So relaxing and a great Sunday vibe!
The mansion itself is spectacular. I was underwhelmed by the bland RH merchandising (not a pop of color to be found and it all looked the same after awhile), but I came for the glorious architecture and grounds!
I am excited to return in spring when I can get a better look at a sculpture that caught my eye that was covered with snow, as well as get a second look at some of Ms. DeHaan's personal art like a bust that was displayed in one of the halls. I'm not particularly into art but for some reason I really enjoyed seeing some of the pieces.
This is truly a gem and a gift to our city. Dress up a bit, treat yourself to a touch of luxury, and enjoy the experience! ...
