Bigotes Puerto Rican Restaurant — Restaurant in Isla de Vieques

Had the best lunch there with my girlfriend on 4/4/19. It came highly recommended from all the people in Esperanza where we were staying so we hopped on the rented scooter and made the trek up there and it certainly did not disappoint. We had Carne Frita with "Puerto Rican Risotto" and Shrimp Mofongo along with a grilled pork scewer. All were excellent and "risotto" (rice and beans cooked like risotto with cheese) was probably the best side dish I ate my whole 10 days in Puerto Rico. They also have luch specials for like $6, which is just crazy cheap. Mr. Bigotes himself sat and talked with us for over 20 minutes about how they were all ready for their grand opening in 2017 then Irma and Maria hit. They were the first ones on the island feeding people after the storm and are now in the works to open a 2nd location in Esperanza. It's a beautiful thing they are doing there. The food I had was good (yellow burger) and the drinks were delicious, but I was overcharged on my credit card for an item that did not arrive. They did give me a cash refund for the item that had not arrived, and told me that I would not be charged the original amount, which included the item that had not arrived. They then charged my credit card again with the correct amount. However, a few days later, I see on my bank statement that I was charged both $56 and $32, so now I have to call my bank to dispute the $56. It's not the worst thing in the world, though slightly annoying, as I had been told I would have nothing to worry about.

Bigotes ties for one of the top 3 meals we've had on the island. My husband had the special which was ribs in guava bbq sauce... which he says were the best ribs hes ever had! The meat fell off the bone and he thought it was just the right ratio of meat to bbq sauce. I had the chicken kabob (also a special) with rice and beans. SO GOOD!!! Not to mention... we had the dessert arepa with ice cream and nutella... It was phenomenal!! With 2 beverages, 2 meals and a dessert our bill was 26$... I couldn't believe the price for how great the food was!! The restaurant itself was super cute as was the sweet young girl who sat us and brought menus. We'll definitely go back there a few more times before...
