This was my first time coming here based on word of mouth from a friend that told me they have the best barbecue. So I went it was very, very crowded, on a Friday night but we were seated within a matter of 4-6 minutes as the waitress had to clear a table for us. Upon sitting, I was checking out the menu and saw something else I wanted to try other than the barbecue. Fish and shrimp that again my friend told me was delicious. So I ordered it with my sides, macaroni and cheese and collard greens. My husband had a rib platter dinner and our friend had the all you can eat rib special. After our orders were placed I looked at the window where the dinners we're being sent out through as the waitresses would come pick them up once the cook rang the bell. I sat there and watched what appeared to be my fish and shrimp come up and sit in the window for about 10 minutes as they prepared my husband's meal as well as our friends meal. Needless to say once it got to me, everything was warm to cold. I asked the waitress if I could get my fish and shrimp hot. She took it back and brought me out another plate of everything fried so hard until the shrimp looked burnt. The waitress came back to the table to see how we were doing, I had to get another order of shrimp and wait while my husband and friend enjoyed their hot meals. Needless to say while I waited I tried the sides. Macaroni was watery and the collard greens??? Well after about another 6 minutes my basket of shrimp come back perfectly prepared but at this time my appetite is gone. My husband wasn't eating like he normally does because his ribs had a strong musty smell to them so he left most of his on his plate. I'm sure the meals here are not that bad, based on the congestion of continuous customers they have. Maybe it was due to the crowdedness. But the restrooms are unisex and clean, the waitresses are kind and informative about the menus. Wait time can be extensive so you may want to call in your order like alot of the people that...
Read moreThis place is absolutely AMAZING and a must try for everyone living near & far. At 'The Pig' you are greeted immediately upon entrance and within minutes someone is at your table to take your order. You never have to guess what your server is doing because the restaurant is small and an intimate space where conversations, laughter, light banter, host taking orders, other guests being greeted as they enter are overheard. But NOT in a distracting manner; instead it sounds like love and community! Needless to say if the atmosphere is that great then the food was just as delicious. I stopped to have dinner after 8:30pm, which was near closing time, but they still made sure my order was accurate, the food was hot and every piece of sausage, rib, macaroni and coleslaw was just as tasty as it was when they first opened up. I used to eat here often 7 yrs. ago and I just returned last on night and I'm so grateful that in my opinion this place is still one of the best BBQ joints in Jacksonville. I pray that God continues to bless your business; management that controls it, the workers that sustain it and every patron that...
Read moreWas in Jax for my birthday and wanted BBQ. My three requirements were: locally-owned, highly-rated, and open on Mondays. By a stroke of luck, this place was all three and only two miles down the road from where we were staying. Starting with service, Yanaisa was spectacular in her knowledge of the menu, including the daily sides which were available. Since we had never been there, she took her time in explaining all the variables. Atmosphere was perfect. It's like an old diner car that they added a side room to. No one that came in chose that side room; they all sat in the small front section. Once we ordered, the food was on our table in five minutes, which makes sense in a BBQ joint, but isn't always the case. Food was very good. Having grown up and spent most of my life in the North, I won't even pretend that I know what the heck is good or great BBQ. I'll simply say that I know what tastes great to me and this tasted great. If I'm ever on the northwest side of Jax again, I wouldn't hesitate to come...
