Entering The Jewel Bistro Cafe, we were hit with the aroma of potential - until we looked up. Above our heads, the ceiling was weeping brown tears, collecting in a bright blue bucket that seemed to mock us from beside our half-booth. The ambiance screamed "abandoned carnival" rather than the "cozy retreat" we had hoped for. The music, however, was a delightful surprise, a lone beacon of taste in this shipwreck of an experience, playing tunes that felt like they belonged in a better place. The staff moved with the enthusiasm of zombies, their service as lackluster as the decor. They were there, but not quite present, like ghosts haunting a place they no longer enjoy. My Western omelette? More like a vegetable massacre wrapped in an egg disaster. Picture this: huge, raw chunks of onions and peppers, not sautéed but rather imprisoned in a blanket of egg that was overcooked on one side and runny on the other. The potatoes on the side were like pale, uncooked moons, crying out for a few more minutes in the sun. My wife's French toast was a beautiful deception. Plated like a masterpiece, but the blueberries were so tart, they made your face pucker like you'd bitten into a lemon dipped in vinegar. The toast itself was a study in inconsistency - one side as black as burnt toast, the other as pale as the potatoes, a clear sign of neglect. The coffee was an abomination. We're not just coffee drinkers; we're coffee connoisseurs, and this brew was so bitter, it could strip paint. It was the kind of coffee that makes you question if you've ever truly enjoyed coffee before. This breakfast was less a meal and more a cautionary tale. We entered with hopes as high as the ceiling tiles, only to leave with our spirits as low as the bucket catching the leaks. The music was the sole savior, but not enough to make me forget the raw vegetables or the coffee that tasted like regret. One star for the music, a melody in a sea of mistakes. But for the food, the service, the ambiance - a resounding zero. We'll never return to The Jewel Bistro Cafe, and I'd sooner recommend my enemies visit a dentist for a root canal than suggest they dine here. Here's hoping they find salvation in better ingredients, a new chef, and perhaps a plumber to fix...

I had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Jewel Bistro Cafe, and I can honestly say it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the breakfast platter with eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, a side of gravy, and the fried green potatoes—and every single item was cooked exactly the way I requested.
The real showstopper? Those fried green potatoes—they were hands down the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned, crispy, and packed with Southern flavor. And the gravy? Creamy, rich, and downright crave-worthy. But nothing—nothing—could beat the fried green tomatoes. If you go, do not leave without trying them. They’re next level!
The restaurant itself was spotless, the service was absolutely flawless, and the whole place gave off a cool New Orleans vibe that made it feel like more than just a meal—it was an experience.
My only regret? That I didn’t have a second stomach to order the beignets! Guess that just gives me a reason to...
Read moreI’ve visited the Jewel Bistro five times now and I think it’s time for a fair and honest review. Most of the time the food is great! I would recommend the fried green tomatoes, the beignets, the chicken fried chicken and the chicken fried steak. What I would not recommend is the French toast. $12 for two pieces of bread with just a few blueberries on top is too expensive for what it is! Also, the side of bacon that I ordered was not cooked crisp. The wait staff is always great!
Now, on the reason I am giving you four stars and not five stars. During the first week of December, my daughter was visiting for another state. We were walking and looking at the Christmas lights with the intention on stopping by the bistro and trying one of their coffees. It was an hour before closing time and the waitress said she could not make the coffees because the machine had already been cleaned. You should wait until you are closed before cleaning the machine or offer to make the...
