Asian House Restaurant — Restaurant in Jefferson City

It is unusual for me to leave a 1 star review. And for all the positive moments this restaurant has played in our lives over the years, it is unusual for them to earn one from us. I want this to be very clear. I also own a small business myself and I want this review to be transparent and honest. Their food is wonderful, and generally our family is very happy choosing their establishment as a place to enjoy meals both for workday lunches and date night takeouts.

Today: My husband and I placed an order with them ahead of time like we usually do over the phone. We then waited the normal 15 minute quoted timeframe to come and pick it up. We've done this for 5+ years through their drive through window. When I arrived, there seemed to be confusion, and I was directed to park out front and told it would be brought out to me once it was finished. So I waited another 20 minutes. Finally, I walked in to check just in case something might be wrong. Sometimes cards decline, particularly if we've made more than three purchases in an hour. This is when I see my ticket had been designated as a Walk-In order. And I know, I know....it isn't difficult to walk inside to pick it up, but it's the premise, and the time after already doing our due diligence for a quick service they provide.

When I arrived back to work, half the order was missing. This is on me, I'll fully admit. I should have checked. I was in a hurry, and my lunch break was already nearly over for the hour. I had waited, then waited again. I was flustered and not paying attention. And I had justified it in my mind that the extra time waited would equate to the order being right. I also relied heavily on the fact that our order has never been wrong from here. Which is a blessing these days, truly. I don't take it for granted. So I had to drive back. And there was the other half of the order....waiting. Amd still, ai think to myself...at least we have a microwave in the break room.

*Something to note here as well: the parking is lot is very small and slightly atrocious now in the new location. So I was nearly hit trying to back out in a sharp blind corner in a fairly large truck. This said, I could buy a small car. Maybe I will. It'll be better on gas for...

The wife had a sushi craving. We had read rave reviews about Asian House online. Well, that says maybe. Great reviews don't always resonate. Different strokes and all that. So we drove up to JeffCo to check it out. Asian House offers the best Asian food we have had in years. It's incredible. We both got the Happy Box (it's a Bento box) with General Tso's Chicken. That came with two giant crab rangoon, fried rice, and a chicken egg roll. The General Tso's was kicky, in a golden sauce. It didn't taste like chicken nuggets in a ketchup and brown sugar slurry. It was a dish for adults. It is the best General Tso's I've ever had. The wife agreed. The sushi was fresh! It was California rolls, which is beginner sushi, but the avacado was crisp and the seaweed really came through. Excellent rice! You can screw up fried rice without meaning to, but this was quite good. The egg roll was not as good as the crab rangoon, but that's a super high bar. Crab rangoon was a little rubbery, but the filling was hot and well-balanced. Asian House is all kinds of great. The atmosphere isn't intimate, but the amazing food makes up for it. I was at Asian House this evening (12/22/24) grabbing some takeout for dinner like we've done a hundred times in the past. One Chicken Happy Box and one Steak Happy Box are always our go-to. It was my first time being in the new location, and I was incredibly impressed. There were at least 4 cars in the drive-through, multiple families dining in, and the phone seemed to ring non-stop the few minutes I was there. My wife and I have always loved Asian House, but I wanted to make sure to and leave a review (something I should have done a long time ago) because of something I overheard this evening while waiting for my meal. Someone mentioned recent reviews that had been posted attacking the staff as well as the quality of the food. While I can't speak to others' experiences, I feel it is the least I can do for the restaurant and the those individuals that work there to mention the countless number of 5-star interactions my family and I have had with EVERYONE working there for...
