The Betsy Ross Diner is a family-owned modern American diner located in Oak Ridge, New Jersey. It has been a staple in the community for many years (est: 2013), offering a variety of classic diner fare with a modern twist. The diner was recently renovated and is under new ownership, which has brought a fresh look and updated menu to the establishment. The diner is known for its friendly atmosphere and a wide range of breakfast options that go beyond standard diner food. Reviews online are mixed, with some customers praising the burgers and others noting long wait times for food. After a few visits, here is my review: The history of Betsy Ross is what really sold me on trying this diner. Betsy is often credited with sewing the first American flag. According to popular legend, George Washington and other members of a committee approached her in 1776 to create the flag; however, the story comes from her grandson, William Canby, who presented his story to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in 1870, nearly a century after the event. Some suggest that Francis Hopkinson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence designed old glory. The Betsy Ross Diner has friendly staff. They are also quick and mostly attentive. The space is large -- terrific utilization. The booths along the walls have a 4-port USB charging station (shown in pic). The menu is massive, which could overwhelm some, but they make just about everything so there probably won't be any issues ordering exactly what you want exactly the way you want it. Every dish my wife and I have tried is stellar. Plus, the prices are fair. The Betsy Ross Diner has a price for those paying with cash and a price for those paying with a credit or debit card. You will save about 4% on your bill by paying...
Read moreStopped in here recently to grab lunch with my girlfriend. I frequent berkshire valley road for work and always pass by here so figured it was about time. I was really impressed with the cleanliness and the aesthetic of the restaurant, you can tell it was recently redone and it looks very nice! We sat inside because it was humid but the outdoor section looked nice as well. The food seemed good, they had a good selection of items without it being overwhelming. I ordered a burger and while the flavor was good, it was covered in grease and way too greasy. I was able to squeeze the burger and a lot of grease came out, that's why I'm giving a lower score on the food, the fries were some of the best I've had in awhile. My girlfriend ordered a chicken pesto sandwich of some sort and she really enjoyed it. We thought oh well they made a mistake on the burger we will come back because the rest seems good. What is not going to bring me back was the customer service. The waiter was great, nice young kid who did an excellent job. The people at the cashier left a little to be desired. They asked how our meal was, I said it was okay because it was, it wasn't great but it wasn't bad. She gave me a look, and seemed like she struggled to say thank you after we paid the bill. Not once did she ask what was wrong and why it was only okay. As someone in the customer service business, this was a little annoying. I would've came back over a simple mistake on the burger, but feeling like we were shunned because I had a subpar meal will find me going elsewhere. Maybe will try again...
Read moreI absolutely love this place! Itâs got a lovely vibe, like a cozy cafĂ© where the bar tender knows your name. Well, at least until the bill comes ..The prices are so outrageous, I half-expect them to hand me a mortgage application along with my menu. A âlargeâ chocolate milk, which was about the height of a toddlerâs action figure, cost me $4.50đ„And no one even bothered to ask what size I wanted. At this rate, I shouldâve just asked for a shot glass .
Now, letâs discuss the waffles. They were delightful! If only they hadnât set me back $18. The butter that accompanied them, however, was another story. It came in a package that looked like it had been through a food fight in a horror movie. I only realized it was spoiling after I had devoured my waffles, and then I caught a whiff that smelled like a dairy cowâs bad day mixed with a cheese factory explosion. Delicious âŠ
As for the home fries, they were pretty tasty! But honestly, I think I felt more queasy from the $5 price tag on my tiny plate of potatoes than from that butter horror.
Oh, and the service! The waiter wouldâve been a friend if she hadnât been MIA the whole time. I started to worry sheâd been abducted by aliens or something. Anyway, I had a fantastic time spending $50 on two plates of breakfast. Who knew brunch could feel like a high-stakes poker game? At least I got to share the experience with my friends nothing bonds you quite like the shared trauma of...
