Gringo's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Jefferson

The service received today was very poor! It was busy (but not so busy for the treatment I received) and somewhat crowded with no social distance during COVID-19 pandemic. No one, except 3 customers had face masks on and I’m not certain if my order I placed was overlooked but I placed a take-out order, patiently waited as people came and went for over 26 minutes and finally checked with front hostess who said my order was being packed up, waited another 10 minutes still no order, asked another hostess/cashier who placed my order, she said it would be ready in a few minutes. I waited another 15 minutes or more, restaurant was emptying out and when I saw a waiter bring five plates out to the last group of at least five people that was just seated to dine in after I asked the second hostess on the status of my order, I was fed up. It had been 46 minutes total wait time and everyone that came to dine after I’d order (one group had 8 people and two other large groups came in had ordered after me had received their meals), when I saw this last group receive their food, I requested my order cancelled. What was disappointing is the front ladies were nonchalant about it, never gave an explanation, never apologized and never seemed to check with gentlemen in the kitchen about my order. I could see the people in the kitchen as well. I ended up driving to an Athens Mexican restaurant, this establishment was more busy/crowded then Gringos and the order was prepared in 20 minutes, they were courteous and the wait time was minimum. So to the owner of this establishment, you may want to advise your employees to be careful how they treat people, especially someone as patient as I was because I work for a very reputable company in the area with numerous people and word-of-mouth from a very patient patron that you overlooked without any consideration nor explanation nor apology isn’t great for your...

Had a really great time. My food was super delicious.

When we went, the place was incredibly packed. (A little after 8pm on a Tuesday). People had to park in grass and in the middle of the lot. It was a little convoluted.

It took a little bit to get a table and to get chips and salsa. (About 5-10 minutes for both), which I was prefecture fine with, given the crowd.

Food and drinks came out quicker than I thought they would, which was awesome.

Despite knowing they were busy, I didn't see much of it since the place has a lot of little caveats of seating rather than one huge floor, which makes a more intimate dining experience. Our little "cove" had three booths, two of which were filled when we were sat, but were gone toward the beginning of our meal and we didn't see any guests after that.

However, I think because of that, we may have been forgotten a few times. We were never asked if we wanted a chip refill (I wanted it, but probably best that I didn't get it... lol.)

I'm pretty easy going in restaurants. I understand the difficulties of a busy night. However, the reason I gave 4 stars is because we had to ask for our check with 3 different employees before finally getting it.

So in the end, had a great time and enjoyed some delicious food. Just ended up not being sure if they'd let us leave... haha.

If it wasnt for our waiter I would have given them a lower rating however, our server was excellent. We went last night arriving a little on the late side, around 9:15. The 2 female hostesses and 1 man who looked like a cook gave us nasty looks that I can only assume was due to the fact we walked in 45 mins before they closed. Patently we waited to be seated while the group of 3 finished their conversation. After being seated I apologized to the hostess for it being so late. Without any response she turned and walked away. I feel like that's enough of the negative as I dont like having to leave negative reviews. So our waited came over to take our order and after getting the cold shoulder from other employees I again apologized to the server. This guy was outstanding. He said no need to apologize we have plenty of time as even after close everyone has to clean their stations. This server who I so regret no getting his name was very attentive, made casual conversation, and took us from uneasy to feeling at home. Our food was came out quickly, was hot, and exactly as asked for. I definitely recommend Gringos.
