We have been to the Yellow Cactus many times. Most times it has been ok, but tonight’s service was abysmal at best. The server was admittedly new, which was baffling because we had called 7 hours in advance to reserve our larger party table for my 7 year olds birthday. PLENTY of notice to plan for 10 people and not stick a brand new server with us. We waited and asked multiple times for both drinks, chips, and salsa and had to remind the server for our queso, among other things. Drinks and multiple orders arrived incorrect. After half of our party received our food, the other half had to either send food back because it wasn’t what was ordered or had to wait for over a half hour for it to finally arrive.
I actually feel sorry for our poor server, as it was clear that she had not a single soul to support her through this.
At the end of the meal, when asked to speak with a manager-we were met with someone who clearly was NOT a manager and made excuse after excuse as to why our service was what it was. Never once did we receive an apology. In fact, the “manager” had the audacity to say “well, that’s not my problem” and literally turned his back on us and walked away. Needless to say, we will...
Read moreThis location just opened and it faces some pretty stiff competition from less expensive and, frankly, better Mexican restaurants in the J-Town area. Their margaritas were OK but we were shocked at the price: $9 each.
We are vegan eaters so we scoped out their menu before going and thought the vegetarian burrito looked promising. But English language difficulties on the part of our waiter proved to be an obstacle. In the end, we got burritos that tasted like the tortillas were either buttered or had cheese scraped off. No rice or beans because the beans are made with lard and the rice is made with chicken broth.
So our tab was right at $50 for two margaritas, two burritos and a side of guacamole. You can judge whether that is very competitive. It should be noted that other Mexican restaurants in J-Town do much better accommodating our food requests for a much lower price.
On the positive side, the Yellow Cactus was surprisingly well decorated. Their chips and salsa were pretty good. Maybe the crowds drawn to Bud's Tavern next door will help them, but I doubt if the Yellow Cactus will...
Read moreSo I will not eat at this PLACE AGAIN! Went to the Jeffersontown location ordered the TRIFECTA COMBO, they never gave me my third option! When I called the manager said the beans and rice were the third option. I pointed out the menu clearly states the beans and rice come with the combo! It also clearly states to choose three items and not that the beans and rice counted as one! I guess the Duo is really a single. The manager was extremely rude saying I can do nothing for you it is what I say. Well why don't your read your menu! False advertising and super poor service! This is the menu item tell me if I am wrong please!! I will never be back to this establishment. Unless that...
