We went for the first time recently, on a Sunday, which is our only available day of the week to eat out. Our area has VERY limited options for Sundays, so this place was already winning, before we knew much more. However, after our visit, we decided this is DEFINITELY our new favorite spot, for multiple reasons. First, it's a beautiful drive down Somerset Pike, from up our way, which can be a "mind clearer". Perfect for a Sunday evening. Second, the people who work here, AND the owner, are super special folks who welcome you like family! We are used to living in a large Metro area (before moving to the Laurel Highlands) and kindness goes a long way with us. And, third, the food really is truly phenomenal! Now.....we're not talking about the pizza or wings.... no sir. We can get that without much of a drive from home. We're talking about the weekly Specials that the owner clearly pours a lot of love into. We had the prime rib, which is the best we've had since moving here 6 years ago. SO EXCITING. (I'm considered the Prime Rib Queen in certain parts of the south. 😉😅 I KNOW MY PR.) My husband and I shared that, and the duck with blackberry balsamic glaze. So tasty and well presented. And, actually more than either of us could eat in one sitting. LEFTOVERS! We also want to note that both of us got the strawberry-poppyseed dressing on our salads and hubby now wants enough to drink! So, there's that. 😁 The Flyin Lion also has an outdoor covered deck, which is wonderfully lit with lots of plants and Edison lights and just so cozy. Just my kind of atmosphere. We are already planning our next visit and can't wait to try some more of...
Read moreI have visited the flying lion on three occasions. I will no longer give the flying lion another cent of my money. On all three occasions the owner was extremely unwelcoming. The coldness from her made me, and my boyfriend feel uncomfortable. The last time I came in just to get a to go food order, and the owner stopped talking to her customers outside on the balcony, and proceeded to stare me down the entire time i was parking my car, and the entire walk up the steps. It was rude, and made me feel terrible for even ordering from them. Then, the next time my boyfriend came in just to grab some beer to go, the owner questioned his license and quizzed him on his address. My boyfriend is 45. He does not look underage. It's fine to card, but this was a bit much. The food is basic. Nothing special, but it is a fair price for what you get, so I was happy to use them on lazy days when I didnt feel like cooking. However, because of the unwelcoming, and sometimes rude nature of the owner I will never ever go back to the flying lion. The fat squirrel just down the road has fabulous food. If I were you, go...
Read moreFor the prices of the food you would definitely expect better the taste was good but one thing that you need to change is serving cold shrimp with a hot steak there's a reason to chill shrimp and that's so it stops the cooking process and they are easy to take out of the shell but once you put them on a hot plate with a hot steak you start the cooking process again and then they are hard to peel and become rubbery so hopefully they will take this info to heart and at least don't put the cold and hot on the same plate and change your baked potatoes because again something that is supposed to be hot was...
