Shuckers is just an amazing restaurant that we go to regularly when in town. There's no question that being right on the beach with the gorgeous turquoise Atlantic and white capped waves at your tableside is a huge draw. There are many waterfront restaurants..but most are on the rivers..not the wide open sea. That said...this place is a bit rare and special...so expect wait times if you go during regular lunch and dinner times. Many times we are there and the inside is as packed as the outside...which tells you the food can stand on it's own. If you're food is not good here...you've picked a bad day and something is amiss in the kitchen. So far so good as we've never hit a bad day. We have enjoyed many different dishes, from fresh oysters to Italian specials and everything in between. Everything is fresh and very tasty..well above average and very reasonably priced...especially for this area! Reading a lot of the comments on here...so I'd like to add a few. The serving staff here are really amazing. This place can be sooo busy it is a wonder that they can be as friendly and accommodating as they are. Fresh lemons for the waters, extra napkins, a little extra sauce...no problem. The orders come out quickly and two extra checks to make sure you're happy. These people work mostly for tips...so they work hard to keep all their customers happy. Ok...to the pet peeves. SMOKING????!!! WHY IS SMOKING ALLOWED ANYWHERE THAT FOOD IS SERVED????? 😐 I thought that was outlawed??? It is in most other states??? Just because it is outside doesn't mean you aren't smelling it and breathing it in with your meal!!??? So gross!! One day we were there and there were several smokers at the bar. It wafted all over us and right over to a family sitting by the water with a 3 year old and a baby in the carriage. Let people go smoke out on the beach...a safe distance from the restaurant or before they enter???? And yes...the front desk and outside desk are made up of very young bored girls who could use some training on the hospitality business. Lol A rude reception and deadpan "thank you" when you leave is not a great reception or farewell for what otherwise is truly a GEM on the...
Read moreDirectly on the ocean this Jensen Beach resort has a real gem of a restaurant called Shuckers that's not pretentious and serves some of the best food in the area in a fabulous atmosphere that is tiki-like and casual that makes for a relaxing and fun dining experience. There's both inside or outside dining with bars in both areas as well. Dogs used to be allowed outside but that has been restricted now to service puppies. They do have live music but th schedule varies,it's a cool environment.
While my friends, who actually have their snowbird home nearby, have been there multiple times and had great things to say about their seafood, apps and drinks my friend Bill and I were on a different mission, RIBS! He knows that I'm BBQ savvy having lived in NC and Memphis and had lots of pig in TX and KC so during a Q conversation he suggested we go here. So let's talk about the food .....
Even though ribs was the mission I couldn't pass up the chance to grab their conch fritters and conch chowder, two of my absolute favorites. The fritters were quite good but the chowder was some of the very best I've ever had, seriously well done. So next up was the full rack of ribs (only $19.95) a very tasty vinegar coleslaw and steak fries. While the ribs were missing the Memphis smoke they were fall off the bone tender with a very nicely seasoned and cooked that has a perfect amount of mild sauce that I quite enjoyed. I will visit here again on my next visit no doubt.
The menu here is loaded with seafood options from grouper, flounder and tuna to shrimp, lobster rolls and of course oysters but they have some eclectic fare like Margherita pizza, NY strip, Cubans, quesadillas, burgers, chic parm and more so something for most tastes. Vegans can get a plant based burger or vegetarian Greek wrap and a nice selection of salads is also available.
Bottom line: Prices are reasonable and a good value because the food is very good, the service is outstanding (Charlie was great) and the Island Beach Resort's huge oceanfront covered deck with panoramic view is one of the very best on Hutchinson Island. Highly recommended!
Note: Smoking is permitted on the deck but not for...
Read moreYou will have to read this review to determine why I gave them 5 stars on Food, Service, and Atmosphere, but didn't give them a 5-star overall rating. The area that this restaurant is lacking in is perceived value. Some of their food is worth the price, but others come up lacking. An example you say. Well, the price on their house Ceasar salad is $12.95, but with no protein. Adding shrimp will double the price of the salad, an additional $12.00, $24.95 for a Shrimp Ceasar salad is quite steep. You can add chicken for $6, more in line with traditional protein add-ins, but that makes it $18.95 for a Chicken Ceasar salad, and Cobb salad which contains way more costly ingredients including the chicken is $ 15.95. The Asian Chicken Salad is $15.95. Their pricing seems to be off. I got the Shucker's Salad, which has blackened tenderloin, and it was just $19.95. The other pet peeve is about restaurants that don't give you the size of your meal but use general terms like "Generous Portion" on their Peel-n-Eat Shrimp. Someone give me a quantitative definition of "Generous Portion". When just below this they list a full LB of Mussels. The second reason I didn't give them a 5 is that there happy hour (3 to 6) has no food options. it can't be that hard to discount some of the 13 currently listed appetizers. I also had an issue with the bartender charging me $7 for a draft Yeungling Lager and then telling me that IPA's are not on the $3 happy hour draft price. Ah, to my knowledge, Yuengling doesn't even make an IPA, and calling their Traditional Lager an IPA would probably tick them off. It did me, so 4 stars is all you...
