I recently visited Pedro’s Chili and Chips and was delighted by their menu options. They offer at least three vegan and three vegetarian dishes, including the wonderful vegan nachos. The nachos are deliciously tasty and not too salty, which I really appreciate. The service was kind and attentive, and for an extra touch, you can add jalapeños and black olives. It’s fantastic to see a fast food restaurant supporting vegan options that are both tasty and filling. I have to give them five stars!
Historical Background Pedro’s Chili and Chips, originally known as Petro’s Chili & Chips, made its debut at the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. The concept was created by Joe and Carol Schoentrup, who served chili and corn chips in a sliced-open Fritos® bag, topped with various ingredients. This unique dish, initially called a “Petroleum Belly,” quickly became popular and was later shortened to "Petro®".
After the success at the World’s Fair, the first permanent Petro’s location opened in Knoxville’s West Town Mall in 1985. Over the years, the menu expanded to include items like baked potatoes, hot dogs, and nachos, and the brand became known for its signature Hint-of-Orange® Iced Tea.

Read moreHaven't been to a Petro's in many years, not for any particular reason but decided to stop in as we passed by. The food was wonderful and somewhat reasonably priced. Everything we had was super fresh. Toppings on the nachos I had could be more plentiful and seemed like i would be left with a plate of chips. The kicker was this..... They're a chili place... It would stand to reason that there would be chili on the nachos.... WRONG. Had to pay an extra $5.00 for the chili.... The guy at the register was new and rang my wife's order up wrong. When I went back to the counter with two different hot dogs, a girl from the back of the place promptly corrected me letting me know that was how it was rang up. I explained that's not how it was ordered.... That was somewhat off-putting. Sort of explains why the place was almost completely empty at lunch time on a Saturday with high school graduations all around the place.
Again... The food was fresh and tasted wonderful but the service and portion sizes will keep me from becoming a...
Read moreSmall chain restaurant atmosphere. It was not very busy when we were there but we still had to wait a few minutes for someone to come take our order. The Petro potato was very large, plenty of food reasonable price. The wedge salad was very good and also a generous portion. The cheese dip was okay. A few minor negatives there were a lot of tiny chips or chip crumbs with the chips and queso order, not ideal for dipping. The Fritos on the Petro seemed some what stale. Overall, the restaurant and bathroom were clean, there food was decent and not overpriced and the...
