I was doing a cross-country trip in a UHaul, and as a vegan I try to plan my stopovers around restaurants with vegan options so when I saw Luna Mexicana I planned one of the stopovers to be in Joliet and I'm so glad I did. The food was the best vegan Mexican I've ever had in any city, I don't know what kind of brujeria they do in the kitchen but it was magical. Basically they can make any of their items with ingredients from a really long list of vegan options. I had the enchiladas verdes with potatoes and vegan meat (kind of like soy chicken) and vegetables and a chulupa with potatoes, soyrizo, and vegan cheese. I never do things like this, but it was so good I took a photo of the food and texted it to a friend. I ordered the enchiladas and the chulupa because I'm coming from NYC where the prices are huge and the portions are tiny, and Luna Mexicana's portions were humongous so I stuffed as much as I could into my piehole but couldn't finish everything because it was so much. And the prices were really reasonable as well. The staff was really nice and the restaurant itself was basic bar eatery with some cool art things to look at like a Dia de los Muertos statue. If I'm ever near Luna Mexicana again I would...

Decor is colorful, vibrant with rustic elements like the robust wooden benches at the booths. We were immediately greeted & encouraged to sit whenever we'd like. I'd have loved to, but we had an event so were getting carry-out. The server noted she would rush the order for us. I was delighted to find the dedicated Vegan section of the menu & ordered two gorditas (think like if a taco and calzone had a baby) stuffed with vegan chorizo, potatoes, and other mixed vegetables. My spouse ordered a vegan burrito with vegan chorizo, vegan sour cream, Daiya vegan cheese, mixed veggies (including red & green peppers), and potatoes. I regret not taking photos, but we basically inhaled our food.

Unfortunately, I was informed the horchata has milk, but the server offered me a sample of a hibiscus drink to try and see if I'd like that instead. I found it a bit too sweet for my tastes, but I imagine someone with a sweeter tooth than mine would love it.

Luna Mexicana has a delightful charm and serves wonderfully fragrant, flavorful food. The next time I find an excuse to return to the Joliet area, I'll go out of my way to revisit -- and make some time to have a proper...

We ordered online for this place, since they have extreme trouble speaking english or finding employees that do when you call we decided to order on a food delivery app. After the app said it would be ready at 930pm we showed up 5 minutes early and waited till 930 to go in, when we were about to get out of the car the app updated us that the order was canceled, so we instead tried to order through the phone, a girl who spoke English answered and said they had to cancel the order because "making vegan food is too hard and they would have to clear out the cooks from the kitchen" then why label things on your menu vegan? The hostess was obviously drunk and was taking shots at the bar I could smell alcohol coming from her breathe. while there was only one group of people in the place. We had went to this place once before with a friend who spoke Spanish and the food was decent but not for the price. But getting a drunk hostess and getting denied food because the food on their menu was "too hard to make" is going to prevent me and my girlfriend from coming here again. The steak was...

Susan was very friendly and helpful with recommending vegan dishes for my party. I had the vegan gorditas with poblano peppers and cheese and the other with vegan chorizo and potato. They were so good, especially the handmade tortillas because it had such an authentic flavor. My wife had the vegan enchiladas with chorizo and potato covered with salsa verde and cheese. She loved it! We have had a hard time finding great vegan food while visiting family in Chicago, so we were so happy to have found this place. Also, as a Mexican from Texas, this food tasted like food my grandma and my tías would make, and they aren’t even vegan. Oh, and don’t forget to try the vegan Horchatas! Made with rice milk and oat milk, they were amazing! I can’t thank them enough because some of us were getting hangry lol. We will have to come back when we are in the area.

Convenient parking lot to the left of the restaurant, the building is red and eye catching! Once inside the decor really takes you to that traditional Mexican style, very cozy and welcoming, the tables are huge! Perfect for a group of 4+, any table you choose you have a perfect view of the kitchen and the surroundings, bar side is a bit more modernized but still with the Mexican style. Our waiter was respectful and up beat and answer our questions to the fullest, we order the giant platter that feed two people, it was delicious and full filling 😋 It did take a while maybe about 35+minutes but the food was definitely worth it. I suggest go and try it! I know I will be coming back!

For Cinco de Mayo 2023, I ordered a vegan burrito for takeout. They were almost done with it by the time I got there. Paying for my food was a little bit of a slow process because of a language barrier, as not all of them knew English and I’m not fluent in Spanish at the time of this review. My burrito was so good though. I enjoyed every single bite and it honestly tastes even better than the veggie burritos I normally get from Chipotle. Will definitely return as a customer, but will most likely wait until I know more Spanish, so that the process of me coming and going from this place will be quicker next time. Might have to try their vegan enchiladas.
