This is hands-down our favorite restaurant - of any type of food - in the area, or maybe anywhere since leaving Los Angeles. The restaurant is located in an old fast food building, but they have done an incredible job completely remodeling and decorating. You genuinely cannot even see a hint of the original tenant. From the floor tile to the booths to the beautifully repurposed playplace into an additional dining room that can be used as a private room for events, everything is sophisticated, modern, and clean.
One of the things that sets Speedy Burrito aside from other places in town is their drive-thru. Most restaurants taking over an old fast-food building would take out the drive-thru altogether or perhaps just use it to give orders to customers that ordered and paid ahead of time, but they aren't an ordinary restaurant. The drive- thru is still fully functional, even offering a menu board displaying the full menu beside the intercom. The wait is never more than a few minutes, but the drive-thru lane is landscaped with bright, cheerful flowers and pottery - the effort they put into every detail is amazing!
Their menu offers a big variety of custom Mexican staples as well as their own specialties. They are only one of three Mexican restaurants we have found in Joplin that have soup options on the menu year-round, and the soup is delicious * My husband is terminally ill and often simply does not have an appetite, but I can always get him to eat the sopa Azteca from Speedy Burritos. I don't think it is on the menu, but one of the great things about this restaurant is their ability to go off-menu to create specific dishes for customers. We also love their Mexican Flag enchiladas, Fajitas Hawaiiana, and giant chimichanga! And a meal here wouldn't be complete without a delicious horchata, *definitely the best in Joplin, and their rich, creamy cheese dip.
The staff here is beyond amazing, too. The behind-the-scenes cooks must all be magicians, because no matter how busy they were, they get dishes out for eat-in, drive-thru, and delivery orders so quickly, accurately, and well-presented that it doesn't seem humanly possible. The service provided by the front-of-house staff is unfailingly warm, kind, and professional, too. I have to give a shout out to Veronica. I believe she is an owner. She seems to always be working, but I don't think I have ever seen her without a bright smile, and she remembers our usual order right down to my horchata every time without fail.
If you've never visited Speedy Burrito, you need to! And if you have, then you already know that they deserve much more...
Read moreI want to start off with saying I am easy to please person and I don't ever leave negative complaints like this. However, this place is a RIP OFF from food to customer service!!!!!
As a white woman, I can make better Mexican food. This place is a complete joke. Taco Bell would have been a better choice. I ordered a combination plate of what I thought would be a burrito, enchilada, and tamale. It was nothing more than greasy ground beef, one corn shell, and one flour shell topped with red sauce this meal was $13 after tax. Complete joke!!!!!! When I called them out on the slop, they gave me the option of making something else after talking to 3 different people. Not sorry, but I wasn’t going to accept anything coming out of that kitchen again after the slop they put in front of me to consume. I never took a bite and they told me I had to pay for it, any other restaurant would’ve just taken it off the tab and let everyone move on with their lives, not this money hungry place. They told me it would have to be paid for. You served me slopand expect someone to pay for it????
Luckily for them and me, my friend is a better person than I and just paid for everything, and we agreed we will never eat there again, and we will tell everybody not to eat here either...... Poor customer server!!! Overpriced!!!! Food compared to a frozen microwavable banquet meal. Don’t waste your time here. I’m sorry I did. There are by far better places to eat in Joplin. If I could leave negative stars this place would deserve it!
Y'all need to redo your recipe book because yours ain't it! Maybe check some out...
Read moreIt's been a year and a half since this. But this is why they never see me in there establishment.. I loved this place for a long time . Now, I'll never eat there again. First Mexican meal I ate in Joplin was from here. Someone I know got taken out from here and got me a meal and I was hooked. I've had so many meals, lava bowls and shrimp and steak burritos and fajitas. I've tried it all over the last 5 years. Then one night I messed up my dinner so I called them 25 min bf they closed and asked if it would be on if I ordered a take out meal. I got steak and shrimp fajita. And when I got home it had a quarter of an inch of dirty dish water in it. It literally was slopping around the rim and I actually spilled it over the edge of the Styrofoam container in my lap bf I even opened it. Just taking it out the paper bag. I get it. I called last min. But you shouldn't take my order and my money if your not gonna follow through. And I didn't make the rules o. What time u guys stop taking orders. Bug what do I know I'm just the guy that ate there at least 3 to 4 times a month for 4 plus years. ...
